About me and my therapy practice
Sharing your thoughts and feelings can feel like a relief and can help with reflection and self-awareness. I work collaboratively with you to build on your inner resources while offering a supportive and non-judgemental approach and appropriately challenging you. The aim is to help you to realise your full potential and to develop an understanding, through self-awareness, that old survival strategies are no longer helpful. Developing self-awareness is an important goal and can lead to spontaneity and the capacity for real and meaningful relationships.
My aim is to actively and empathically listen to what you have to say in order to help you to get in touch with, understand and express your thoughts and feelings about issues that cause you concern. I want to help you explore the probable sources of your concerns and develop strategies for managing these thoughts and feelings and their accompanying behavioural patterns.
I work with individuals and couples on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and live it more fully.
Practice description
I spend some time finding out about you, and your life up until this point, discussing what brought you to therapy and what you'd like to change. We will gently look at what decisions may have been made when you were younger, as a survival technique, that leaves you in repetitive life patterns and behaviours. As an adult, those decisions may no longer be as helpful to you. Together we will aim to discover why you may have made those decisions and how you may look at making different decisions based on your own developing self-awareness.
My first session
Previous to seeing you I will ask you to complete an intake form that gives me some idea as to why you have chosen to come to therapy and what you hope to achieve from doing therapy. You may not understand what you'd like to achieve at the moment but we can slowly work towards understanding what you'd like to change or shift.
