About me and my therapy practice
I can offer you a safe, confidential space to explore the areas that you are having difficulties with in life. They might be in the present, or past and impacting how you feel about the future. It takes courage to reach out and access therapy. I believe it's absolutely essential for you to feel a connection with your therapist, which is why I offer a free telephone consultation. This gives you the opportunity to start talking about what's brought you and to ask any questions about the way I work in order for us to both decide if working together feels right.
I am interested in working collaboratively with you, and supporting you to come into awareness of what might be underlying the 'symptom(s)', how you can feel more at ease with yourself and feel more fulfilled in life.
My counselling experience to date has involved working with a variety of clients and presenting issues both in private practice, general - and specialist (LGBTQ) centres in London. Prior to qualifying as a Counsellor, I trained in a variety of complementary therapies. I have a particular interest in how trauma impacts the body and how we can not only unpack trauma via talking therapy but also through the body. I believe looking at things holistically.
I also bring over 20 years of working with people in the social care, and mental health field often working with marginalised communities. This has enabled me to work with a variety of people and has enriched my experience.
My first session
An initial session involves gathering some practical information, your expectations, discussing the confidentiality contract and other practical factors such as frequency of sessions.
I usually encourage clients to begin talking about where they need to start; what feels most pressing. I appreciate that there might have been quite a build up to accessing therapy for various reasons, and so it feels important to enable clients to begin to lean into the space.
