About me and my therapy practice
Are you experiencing a difficult situation, change or loss? Perhaps you are struggling with emotions of stress, anxiety, depression, even waking up with a sense of dread and not able to see a way forward.
I can be alongside you providing a time & space to help you understand and make sense of your experience. Being able to do this with a trained professional, can really help with insight to the true nature of your distress, and offers the potential to step back & consider things from a different perspective, and make changes if that's what you want. We can build on your strengths & resources to meet life's challenges with resilience.
I work with young people & adults. I have specific training & experience working with loss, bereavement, anxiety, depression and relational issues, low self-esteem, neurodiversity & co-occurring mental health conditions, work place stress & life crisis. If your concern is not mentioned here, please get in touch to see if I can help. I also have extensive vocational experience of working with those with long term health conditions & mental health issues.
I want to welcome people from diverse backgrounds to counselling. I don't pretend to know it all but I'm continually striving to understand more about how diverse groups are affected by societal & cultural oppression so that my practice is educated & inclusive.
Practice description
I am a Humanistic Counsellor, which simply means I believe you have the capacity to meet your own needs, develop and be personally fulfilled. I am not here to judge you or tell you what to do. My job is to help you understand your challenges and strengthen your unique resources in order to get where you want to in life. My approach is Integrative because I draw on a variety of therapeutic skills and practices to suit you as an individual. This could mean a range of things such as using specific therapeutic tools to aid self-understanding, learning skills to self-regulate, trying creative exercises to get in touch with your feelings or working towards your personal goals using a solution-focused approach.
I am fully qualified and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I adhere to the Ethical Framework of the BACP and am also fully insured.
My first session
I offer a free introductory session of 20 minutes via telephone consultation or a full 50 minute session at half-price. This time is to explore why you've come to counselling, what you hope to get out of your sessions and whether we are suited to working together. There's no obligation to continue with me. This is about finding the right therapist for you.
Starting counselling can be daunting so I ensure we work at your pace and support you compassionately throughout the counselling process. I will pay close attention to your individuality and focus on what you find most useful to work on.
