About me and my therapy practice
You may have been thinking about approaching a counsellor or psychotherapist for some time. It can feel really daunting to approach someone to talk about the problems you are experiencing. Some people put it off because they feel they should be able to deal with the issues bothering them by themselves. At some point in our lives we all experience distressing events, difficult feelings or relationships and a little support at those times can go a long way.
I work with couples and individual clients with the aim exploring what is troubling them; gain deeper understanding of themselves and what is important to them. I have worked or many years with people experiencing difficulties with their self esteem that has held them back in their work and/or personal lives.
I offer in person sessions and remote sessions. Some people find remote sessions more convenient or an easier route into therapy.
Practice description
My aim is to provide a safe space in which you feel able to explore your personal difficulties and find a way through these for yourself. My role is to help you through this process without judgment or telling you what to do. If I think it would be helpful, I may provide information or offer suggestions. I work in collaboration with you on specific goals we discussed at the initial assessment. Throughout our time together we will review progress towards an ending based on an agreed number of sessions or if the therapy is open ended, regular reviews will be part of the process to ensure you needs are being met and how the progress you feel you had made.
It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist or counsellor and therefore I suggest to take your time in finding someone who suits you. Equally, if I feel unable to help with your particular problems I will do my best to point you towards other avenues of more appropriate help and support.
My first session
Our initial contact will likely be over the phone or email, at that point I will suggest we arrange a non-chargeable meeting of approximately twenty minutes to discuss what has brought you to therapy at this point in your life; what your hopes and/or goals are for the future. This meeting can be either in person, Zoom or telephone. I will provide a copy of my Individual Client Contract or Couple Contract for your information. If you decide to proceed with me, in our early sessions I will ask for more in-depth information about your current situation, your life experiences including your, relationships, lifestyle, mental and physical health and emotional well being. I will ask you to give your informed consent to the client contract. I will also ask you to provide the contact details of your GP and an emergency contact person.
