About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Kerrie, I am an experienced fully qualified Integrative counsellor with over 25 years experience working with people in a variety of roles, roles that require sensitivity, support and compassion.
Distress comes in many forms whether it be through panic attacks, anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship issues, anger. I work with my clients to support their distress so that the individual feels more able to cope with the complexities of life.
Throughout my career as a counsellor I have had the opportunity to work with many individuals. I have worked to support people who may feel Isolated, withdrawn, deeply sad, shamed or find that stress responses like fight, flight, freeze and shutdown are prevalent as coping mechanisms. There may be many reasons why individuals feel and respond in these ways but ultimately myself and the client will work together to gain a deeper understanding of their process, to support their feelings and responses and hopefully bring the client to a place whereby they feel more regulated.
At the heart of my work, regardless of the issues lies the client, I respect the individuality of each client and offer compassion, kindness and respect. The relationship between myself and the client is an important part of the work, through this relationship a deeper understanding of the client's concerns may be achieved.
Practice description
Within my practice I support my clients to find a narrative for their experiences of the world. Alongside finding a narrative, I encourage the noticing of physical sensation as a way to expand the clients understanding of themselves as a whole. Noticing, sensing and trusting in the physical sensation can provide a valuable guide to support decision making and defining of boundaries.
I support my clients with care and compassion to develop a deeper and less frightening relationship to their emotions, if they so choose. This work develops through the safety and containment of the therapeutic relationship allowing the client to explore themselves more deeply, aides autonomy and freedom around decision making and life choices and offers a framework for the client to deepen connections to themselves and other.
My first session
An important part of the therapy process is having the right therapist for you. This is where the initial session comes in. It provides an opportunity for us both to find out more about each other, including how I work and a bit more about your current situation including what has brought you to therapy at this time. This session may give you more of an insight into me and whether I am the right person for you, I will also consider if I am the best person to help with the issues you are having.
