About me and my therapy practice
I have a special interest in relationship & family issues, self-esteem, confidence, and decision-making issues, helping individuals and couples better understand themselves, their life situation and working on what is or isn’t best serving them.
Perhaps you are questioning who you are as you struggle with hurtful family conflicts, relationship breakdown or past trauma? Are career changes, loneliness, regret or anger creating anxiety, leaving you ruminating in distress and pain? Do you find yourself people-pleasing, unable to voice what you'd really like to say, unsure of who you really are? Menopausal changes or living with a bereavement and sense of loss can feel powerfully overwhelming on your own.
You may be feeling stuck, wondering how you got here and where to go next? Sometimes we feel empty and directionless as situations evolve around us, imposing unwanted changes. I understand how significant life events can be profoundly challenging, making the future feel frighteningly uncertain.
Developing self-esteem, confidence and finding out who you are, is often a pivotal feature of the therapy I offer.
As well as individual therapy, I offer safe, skilled and compassionate Couple Therapy, facilitating a greater understanding of what underlies the conflicts in your relationship; ways to improve meaningful communication; deepen intimacy and express your true feelings comfortably so that 'you can be you' as both an individual and as a part of a couple.
I would love to walk with you, supporting you to find choices and meaning where neither seemed possible. We can figure out together how to move into your future with confidence. I work with warmth, honesty and compassion, providing a safe and kind space for you.
Practice description
I enjoy working online, making therapy easily accessible wherever you are. I currently have availability for online sessions only.
I offer individual one-to-one therapy for adults 21+. I have experience working with clients of all ages, from young adults forging their trajectory in life to retirees seeking to reinvent their self-identity and make new sense of their changed circumstances.
I am also a Couple Therapist, offering either 75-minute (£90) or 90-minute (£110) Couple Therapy sessions for anyone wanting to improve, grow and develop their relationship.
For couples on the brink of separation, I offer a Pre-Couple Therapy Counselling system called Discernment Therapy which involves up to 6 sessions exploring your situation and identifying whether there is enough good will to commit to attending an agreed period of couple therapy to work on the issues between you.
*** For qualified therapists seeking supervision, please note that I'm a qualified Clinical Supervisor. Feel free to contact me if this interests you & do check out my BACP supervisor profile.
I am an Accredited BACP therapist, holding a Level 4 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Levels 1 & 2 training in Couple Therapy, a Supervision Certificate, Certificates in Counselling Studies and Counselling Skills, a B.Soc.Sci Degree in Social Work and Psychology as well as many years in education as a teacher, a Special Educational Needs practitioner and a lecturer. My experience covers working in IAPT for the NHS, The Women's Consortium and Help Counselling Agency.
I work with warmth & compassion to understand your inner world using an integrative, trauma-informed approach, tailoring the therapy to suit what would work best for you and the issues you bring. Although we might explore how past experiences and ways of coping are impacting on your present concerns, our focus will remain with what you are struggling with today.
We will seek to change what can be changed and grow around what cannot.
My first session
If my profile resonates with you, I warmly invite you to send me an email to either book in a first session or arrange a free 15-minute online/telephone exploratory consultation to get a sense of how we might work together. It's so important to find a therapist you click with!
This will be an opportunity to share a little of what's bringing you to therapy now, to ask any questions you may have and to understand a bit more about what I can offer you.
Our first few sessions form an important part of the work. They focus on me enabling you to feel comfortable with therapy, you sharing your story and your concerns, us getting to know each other, building trust, and understanding how the therapy process works. I tread gently and kindly, so there is no cause for anxiety.
There is absolutely no pressure to book an appointment after an exploratory call but should you decide to go ahead, we will usually find a mutually convenient weekly time for your therapy sessions. Once payment has been made by bank transfer, your place is secured and I will email you a confirmation with my Welcome Pack containing a therapy consent form.

About me and my therapy practice
I have a special interest in women's issues of all ages from young women coping with work & family relationships, feeling anxious and uncertain, to those navigating their way through the menopause, retirement and beyond.
Perhaps you are questioning who you are as you struggle with hurtful family issues, relationship breakdown, past trauma or children leaving home? Are career changes, loneliness, regret or anger creating anxiety, leaving you ruminating, in distress and pain? Menopausal changes or living with a bereavement and sense of loss can feel powerfully overwhelming.
You may be feeling stuck, wondering how you got here and where to go next? Sometimes we feel empty and directionless as situations evolve around us, imposing unwanted changes. I understand how significant life events can be profoundly challenging, making the future feel frighteningly uncertain.

If you may be on the brink of splitting up and unsure whether there is enough goodwill left to embark on Couple Therapy, I offer a system called Discernment Therapy where, in up to 6 sessions, we explore your levels of willingness and readiness to make the commitment to Couple Therapy.
I would love to walk with you, supporting you to find choices and meaning where neither seemed possible. We can figure out together how to move into your future with confidence.

About me and my therapy practice
Good healthy Supervision is key to successful, supported, reflective and fulfilling therapy work!
We offer so much of ourselves as therapists and supervision is not only a time to reflect on this work, but to feel understood, supported, nourished, guided and encouraged in our work. I believe we all need to be championed.
As your supervisor, alongside exploring your client work, your practice, your hopes, dreams and goals as a therapist, I will champion you whilst challenging you to grow and develop with confidence. I will encourage you to recognise what you do know and where your learning gaps lie. I will check in on your own well-being and care whether you are engaging in enough self-care so that you are in a good enough place to be present for your clients. Despite this I am conscious of the difference between supervision and therapy and will ensure our focus remains on your work with your clients and their best interests.
I'm a qualified integrative Clinical Supervisor with a leaning towards working in a psychodynamic and a person-centred way whilst embracing numerous other approaches to support you, helping you explore your, and your clients’ needs in your practice.
My psychodynamic leaning comes from my belief that our response to current struggles emanate from habitual patterns of response developed in our past and that our life script impacts on who we are in the world even when many of our needs may (or may not) have been met in childhood.
My person-centred approach stems from my recognition of the importance of working in the present and because it is important to me that you feel safe to share your therapeutic wins and struggles without fear or shame.
Practice description
I offer online supervision only, working with fully qualified therapists at all levels. I also offer supervisory supervision for supervisors. Please note that regretfully I do not work with student/trainee therapists.
I love working online and will help you appreciate online work, which I find offers many positives without compromising the working alliance. I believe supervision is not simply case-management but a collaborative approach, with supervisor & supervisee focussed on the client’s best interests by developing a greater understanding of the client’s concerns through deepening the client/supervisee’s relationship. This includes supporting supervisees to feel safe to explore their work and make autonomous decisions openly & honestly.
I work integratively using the CRAFTS MODEL OF SUPERVISION which encompasses two well-known and respected models of supervision: Hawkins & Sohet's Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision and Proctor's Clinical Model of Supervision whilst adding CREATIVITY into the mix. CRAFT stands for: Creativity, Reflection; Awareness; Focussed; Transformative & systemic.
This integrated model approach aims to provide not only reflective, educational and culturally sensitive supervision but also a compassionate space that acknowledges the humanity in both your professional and personal experiences and offers a bespoke approach to supervision.
I am happy to work with you creatively, if you so wish. I tend to use a 'light touch' in my creative approach but will follow your lead in what feels comfortable for you.
Meeting your needs is important to me and I hope, if you aren’t receiving what you need, you will feel able to discuss this with me so we can adapt our work accordingly.
My first session
As with all therapy, the first few sessions will be about getting to know you and your practice.
Together we will explore your practice and identify goals and needs for further development. I take a holistic approach to supervision, appreciating that it is a space to explore what's going on for you in your therapeutic work as well as exploring your client work.
You might be newly qualified and need support with recources, building confidence and finding your way as a therapist or you may be an experienced therapist feeling a bit burnt out or stagnated, wanting support with new avenues to stimulate your practice. Perhaps you are looking to grow your practice or are finding therapy a lonely profession and need support finding ways to connect with other therapists.
If you choose to work with me we will use Supervision as a forum for safely exploring personal/professional issues which impact on you and your client work by:
- Considering responsibility of standards and ethics. i.e. Ethical requirement of BACP, NCPS, UKCP and other organisations.
- Sharing the responsibility for the professional development of the supervisee's skills, knowledge and understanding in a way that the supervisee can understand and absorb.
- Sharing responsibility for the safeguarding load.
- Offering the supervisee constructive feedback, challenge, support and a safe place 'for discharging and recharging batteries' (Inskipp & Proctor, 1989).
If you would like to know more about me as a therapist and my areas of special interest, please click on my website www.cherylannstewart.com
