About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Janey and I'm a BACP accredited integrative psychotherapist and counsellor. I've been in practice since 2011.
Life can throw all sorts of challenges at us; dealing with crises, separation, bereavement, work based difficulty and lots more. Or sometimes life can just be hard and complicated for reasons we can't quite put our finger on. This can be incredibly exhausting, leaving us feeling lost, lonely, irritable, tearful, scared, angry and emotionally overwhelmed. Other times we can feel unable to function or cope, and these difficulties can cause depression, anxiety, relationship problems, disconnection and even episodes like panic attacks. In moments like these, therapy can help.
Sometimes we just need someone who will listen to us; someone completely impartial who is non-judgmental and unconnected to our lives. I offer a calm, supportive, respectful environment to help you work through the problems and difficulties you are facing. A good connection between therapist and client can help you to feel less alone, giving you a safe, confidential space to explore what's happening for you at the moment. It can also help you to gain deeper insights and new perspectives, whilst encouraging you to begin to make more conscious choices about your future.
I have a lot of experience in counselling people of all ages, covering all kinds of issues, so please do get in touch. Working together, we can find the very best way for you to move forward and feel better.

My Experience...
I am a BACP accredited, qualified integrative therapist. I have worked with and for various organisations and counselling services across London, as well as at higher education institutions as an on-site psychotherapist and within a private practice environment for over fourteen years. I have helped those struggling with anxiety, social anxiety, stress, depression, overwhelm, feelings of loneliness, significant loss, grief and much more.
Having established and ran a counselling service at a Film School, I have a lot of experience working with creative people including dancers, singers, writers, painters and actors to choreographers, cinematographers and film/theatre directors. Together, we have explored techniques to create new, more inspiring habits on a number of topics, including creative blocks, procrastination and time management, self-doubt, fears (including the fear of failure and success) and perceived obstacles/self-sabotaging behaviours.
My Practice...
I trained as an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor. Integrative therapy (or integrative counselling) is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together elements of different therapies. Integrative therapists tend to take the view that there is no single approach that can treat clients in all situations - and because everyone is different, the therapy you will receive from me will be individual to you. Understanding that every client is completely unique is a cornerstone to the way I work; I always respect individuality and I listen to your wants and goals, tailoring my approach to you. I have a foundation in a form of therapy known as Person Centred (Rogerian), integrating elements of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Narrative, Brief Solution Focus and Psychodynamic therapies, depending on my client's needs.
Above all else, my main aim is to remain empathic, open, non-judgmental and to always try to understand you and the way you see the world.
My first session
Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet and learn how it might feel for us to work together. I will ask some questions around what has brought you to therapy, and you can ask me any questions you might have too. You do not have to make any decisions on the spot as to whether we'll meet again. You can absolutely take time to see how you feel in the days following our initial session before deciding.
If we do decide to work together, I'll send over a document for you to sign with some personal information (DOB, GP, address etc), along with my contract (which details practicalities, and my confidentiality policy etc).
How many sessions we'll have is completely up to you, but I do tend to work in an open ended manner as opposed to short term therapy. We'll keep revisiting how you're feeling and for how long you would like us to continue. I like to have regular 'check ins' to make sure you're happy with the way our sessions are progressing.
