About me and my therapy practice
Working with my clients I hope gives them the feeling that they have the opportunity, the time and the space to cope and find a way to lead the life they want to live.
My approach is to work with and alongside you helping to make changes to any of life's experiences which have led you to seek counselling.
Finding the right counsellor who you feel you can get along with is really important and hopefully once we've met you will feel comfortable, supported and at ease.
The hardest part is making that initial call to a counsellor but if you feel I could be the right counsellor for you contact me for a chat and let's see if we can start making your life better again.
Practice description
I hope if we work together you will find me to be kind, supportive and easy to talk to.
I am a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist based in South-West London and Suffolk specialising in loss, bereavement and relationships. As a trauma informed practitioner I can help, but not diagnose, symptoms or issues caused by a traumatic event that leaves a person either reliving the experience and/or suffering from the effect(s) of trauma. I work privately with clients and have worked voluntarily for St Helena hospice as a bereavement counsellor. I have been married for over 30 years and am a parent to three adult children.
My counselling degree gave me a broad knowledge of counselling theories and my work has since gained me experience of working in more depth with a variety of ages and a wide range of issues. Some, but not all of the issues included in my work are depression, abuse, living with someone with an eating disorder, low self-esteem, relationships, work difficulties, bullying, anger management, trauma, loss, bereavement and parenting skills. I am also committed to continuing professional development to support my therapeutic work and my work is professionally supervised.
Before training to become a counsellor, I worked within the commercial and residential sectors of the property world and afterwards for two schools, one of which was for children with low to moderate learning difficulties.
My first session
Our initial session together will last 50 minutes and hopefully give you a feeling of what it would be like to work together and a chance for you to see if I am the right counsellor for you. I will introduce myself and then ask you to tell me about why it is you would like counselling. You don't have to disclose everything to me during this appointment but as much information as you're happy to give is useful in helping me assess if I am the right person for you, and for you to do the same and see if you'd like me to be your counsellor. (Please note there is a charge for this appointment.)
Before this appointment I like to arrange a brief 15 minute phone call (no charge for this) just to ask some brief background and details about yourself. During that call there is also an opportunity for you to ask me anything and it is a way for you to also find out something about how I would work with you and to decide if you are ready to book an appointment.
