About me and my therapy practice
I’m a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist who is approachable, caring and thoughtful.
My focus is on building a safe and supportive relationship with you. I believe in demystifying mental health.
I practice a type of talking therapy called psychodynamic therapy. I listen to and reflect on your thoughts, feelings and experiences and I sometimes focus on the dynamics of our relationship and your past relationships to enable us to explore root causes. This approach can make longer-lasting change for you possible.
I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means I abide by a strict code of ethics and standards.
I work with adult individuals, couples and polyamorous relationships aged 18 years and above.
Practice description
I offer specialist counselling and psychotherapy services including the following areas: Anxiety & Depression, Loss & Trauma, Gender & Identity, Relationships.
I provide long term as well a short term counselling (20 sessions) to support you while going through a difficult patch in life, or open ended counselling to help with more complex or deep-seated issues.
I can help you if everything feels too much and life is difficult, or if you've lost someone, or you're suffering from trauma. I can help if you’re struggling with who you are, confused about your sexuality or suffering with low self-esteem. I can help if you feel you’ll never meet someone special, or if you’re in a relationship that feels wrong.
I offer face to face (in person) and remote (audio and video) counselling and psychotherapy services.
My first session
I provide a free initial telephone chat to hear what has led you to reach out for help and to introduce myself and how I work.
If you decide that you would like to work with me as your counsellor and psychotherapist, we can arrange an initial 50 minute session.
The main purposes of this first session are:
1. To understand more about what is on your mind and your goals for therapy;
2. To agree how we can work together;
3. To hear in more detail about your current situation, your life, your relationships and your early life;
4. To see if we both feel we are a good fit for each other, whether you feel that you can have a therapeutic relationship with me and whether we believe my approach is the most helpful. If not, I can share alternative options that may be more helpful for you.
Sometimes, it can take a couple of sessions to achieve the above.
