About me and my therapy practice
Life can be hectic and it's rare that people take the time to truly listen. How often do you say 'I'm fine' or 'I'm good' when someone asks you how you are? How often do you really mean it? When no one is listening to us we can feel lonely and disconnected even from ourselves and our feelings - numbness, confusion or somatic (bodily) symptoms.
I will listen attentively and provide a safe space for you to express the full range of your feelings and thoughts. You won't need to filter yourself in the way that often seems required in the outside world. I believe that you know yourself best and the purpose of therapy is to allow you to explore your feelings in a non-judgemental space and hopefully achieve greater clarity.
I believe that the role of the therapist is to facilitate but not guide or advise.
Everyone experiences pain and grief in life. Too many people experience trauma too. No one should have to carry these experiences alone. If you feel stuck, anxious, disconnected or unbearably sad, therapy can help. I can help.

My background:
My entire career has been spent working in and around mental health and wellbeing. I was a youth worker for many years and worked with young adults experiencing mental health problems.
As a therapist I worked for four years at a service for women survivors of domestic abuse, providing one to one person-centred therapy to women from a range of backgrounds.
I have also worked on national campaigns to improve attitudes and behaviours towards mental health and I led a programme training secondary school teachers in how to support young people with mental health problems.
I completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling in 2015.
Practice description
My approach is integrative which means I use different skills and modalities, drawing on the person-centred, humanistic and existential approaches. Person-centred means I believe you are the expert in you and I don't direct the sessions. Humanistic means believing in human potential. Existential means taking in to account the realities of human existence (such as mortality) and recognising that anxiety is a normal part of life. Each client is unique and we will build a way of working that suits you.
