About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Jacquie, welcome to Calyx.
Processing past or present hurts, dealing with situations that overwhelm & confuse, are times when we just can't see clearly enough to glean perspective.
Grief is potentially the most painful and isolating experience a human will ever have to endure. There is no quick fix but having someone who can support us as we try to come to terms with life changing loss is invaluable. At a time when we are perhaps our most fragile, I will offer you warmth & compassion as you make your way through the maze that is grief.
Mediation can be the difference from irreparable damage in any relationship/marital breakdown, particularly when children are involved, to somehow making the best of what can be a deeply painful time. I take a specialist interest in this, helping both parties work at compromise and minimise the potential hurt separating couples can inflict on each other and perhaps unwittingly, the children.
I understand it can be difficult to get a feel for someone in this format but after having read a little about me, I hope you will feel a small sense of relatability and connection.
"When we don't close off and let our hearts break, we discover our kinship with all beings." (Pema Chodren, 2008)
Practice description
One of the greatest privileges I have as a counsellor is the humbling experience of being allowed access to my clients inner landscape. No-one knows you better than you but sometimes we can lose our way and sight of who we are. I hope to accompany you through your toils, working in a person-centred way where empathy, compassion and non-judgement remain at the heart of what I do. As we navigate through the journey, I’ll take an integrative approach tailored to your needs.
One of the most common themes that presents itself when people come to therapy is that for however many years they've been too agreeable, another term for this is People Pleasing. Does this sound familiar? The reason for this can be and mostly always is, conditioned within us and deep-rooted. Further exploration can trace this intrapersonal tendency to the earliest chapters of ones personal autobiography. The cultivation of your most authentic self is both liberating and life changing.
Having previously worked with young adults in higher education as a mental health mentor, the role was both challenging and rewarding. I gained valuable experience working with students who needed support whilst managing diagnosis ranging from autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, promoting resilience by implementing strategies to foster independence and a stronger sense of self.
I have previously offered my time for free in various organisations, including Cruse, the Bereavement organisation. This is where I gained my qualification in Grief Therapy.
