About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes life just doesn’t turn out how we had hoped.  Things that have happened in the past may have caused pain and confusion, you may struggle with anxiety and depression. It can be hard to discuss these emotions, or even give them a name sometimes - you need someone other than a friend or family member to talk to.

You may have suffered a bereavement or have experienced other losses such as relationships, jobs, or self-esteem. If you are a someone who has been subjected to abuse you may be tired of fighting feelings of shame and feel ready to start living again. As a person who has experienced a traumatic birth, suffered a miscarriage, or still-birth, or chosen a termination for whatever reason; or be child-free by choice and feel judged and misunderstood; you may need a confidential, non-judgemental space to talk.

I am warm, open and genuine, and have the strength, courage and empathy to be with you while we explore how your feelings and experiences have shaped your life, and whilst you decide where you want to go next. I am trained in Person-Centred counselling which means that you truly are the centre of all the work we undertake together, this is your time.

If you are interested in therapy with me, please get in touch via email, text, or phone call. I aim to respond to all queries within a few hours (except at weekends). I offer a free initial 20-minute telephone consultation during which you can give me brief details of your situation and ask any questions you may have. I look forward to speaking with you.

Practice description

I believe that counselling is about placing you at the centre of our therapeutic work. It can be a new experience to have someone listen deeply, with empathy, and without judgement to your inner fears and thoughts, it can be freeing and sometimes scary. I am here to be with you as you experience your processes and fears, and as you learn to accept you.

Strangely, with acceptance of self, can come change. If you are in a situation that is causing you pain or mental discomfort our exploration of your fears and troubling thoughts can lead to you making the changes that you feel necessary. Our open discussions can lead to you discovering possibilities within yourself that were previously unknown.

My first session

When you first make contact with me we will have a brief conversation where you can outline why you are considering counselling; it may be that you are stressed, distressed, depressed, angry, anxious, or confused, or all of those things at once. Emotions can be tiring, even the positive ones! Following our conversation, if you decide that you want to work with me, we can arrange to meet in my comfortable therapy room in Long Buckby or to work online/via telephone where we can discuss in depth why you are seeking counselling, how you hope it will help, and explore our suitability to work together.

I have limited face-to-face slots, otherwise I work online/via telephone, I will always try to work in the way that best suits you.  There are advantages to online working; telephone and remote work allows clients the autonomy to choose how they present themselves to me - which can be freeing in, and of itself.
