About me and my therapy practice
I'm an integrative counsellor which means I draw on differing theories to fit my clients needs. This usually involves exploring aspects of your past and seeing how they they may be playing out in your present day. we will also look at your feelings in the here and now alongside any pressing issue you may be experiencing now.
Through years of training and experience I believe what is absolutely fundamental in counselling is the well-being and improvement of the client. This I achieve by creating a non-judgemental safe space where you can share your inner concerns and build on sustaining long meaningful relationships.
Practice description
As well as private practice I work within the education system as a school counsellor to 12 to 18 year old's. I have 15 years of experience working with schools from Pupil Referral Unit's, Behavioral Center's and Colleges.
I also work within the Care System delivering Outreach Counselling to care leavers in their communities and homes. I have 5 years experience working with looked after children. My referrals for these two roles come from Schools, Care System, CAMHS and GP Surgeries.
I have huge experience working with troubled excluded teenage boys and see this group as very vulnerable to exploitation and gang culture. Working with these young people is now my passion.
I work a lot with Anger Management and have experience in this field from my work with the EveryMan Project counselling the perpetrators of domestic violence. I learnt so much there around the warning signs, breaking cycles, triggers, violence in the home and its impact on the family and others. The men I supported here were generally referred by the Courts, Probation and some Self Referred.
My first session
I have been practicing Counselling for 10 years now and my first session involves me listening to my client and communicating a safe non-judgemental setting in which they can grow and learn to better understand their life on life's terms.
In the initial session we will complete an assessment which provides an opportunity to explore your goals and what it is you would like to change. We will also discuss the BACP code of conduct and complaints and confidentiality concerning sessions. The focus of your therapy is decided by you and in this way my approach will always be client centered.
When a new client gets into contact regarding therapy they will be offered a 15 minute free phone consultation where they can tell me more about what has brought them to counselling and ask any questions they have about me or my practice.
