About me and my therapy practice
The client is at the heart of how I offer therapy. I'll treat you like an individual, we'll work on what you bring to sessions and if you don't like an approach or element of the therapy then we can talk that through and tailor it to your needs. I won't treat you as the problem, but I will help you find ways to work towards solutions by helping you change your perception, habits and outlook about your self, others and the world.
I have over 5 years experience of offering counselling. I currently work online via telephone or video call. I offer face to face sessions in Huddersfield.
My work history includes 2 years with GP clients, moving on to IAPT experience, local authority counselling, college counselling, counselling NHS staff and EAP/ Employee Assistance counselling. I am also a qualified Supervisor.
I have a sense of humour and will bring that when appropriate if it fits with your personality.
I'll work hard to ensure you are only in therapy for as long as you need to be and will be honest in managing expectations of therapy.
I can offer online therapy sessions (video or telephone) on Mondays, Tuesdays and a Wednesday evening.
Practice description
Online counselling for individuals over 16 years old (telephone or video call)
I'm person-centered trained but feel my offering is now integrative or what we might call diverse. For those it interests I have the following qualifications:
MSc Counselling/ Psychotherapy
BSc Hons Psychology
TA (transactional analysis) 101
Adv Dip CBT/ Cognitive behavioral therapy
PG Cert Counselling Supervision.
These and other tools and perspectives allow me to use a variety of methods to help a client get to where they want to be with their life. I'm IFS (internal family systems) informed, trauma informed and interested in Jung and psycho dynamic perspectives too. What this means for you as a client is that I don't just operate out of one model; I can draw on many aspects to help explore and make sense of what is going on for you.
My specialist areas are: identity, purpose, workplace stress and relationships (individual therapy only), however these are not the only areas I have been successful in supporting clients with. I have spent over 5 years helping clients through anxiety, depression, bereavement and trauma, to name but a few. I have experience of chronic illness too.
If you learn best creatively, visually or practically then we'll go down that route; I believe in working to a person's strengths and helping them harness the skills they already have in order to help them achieve the skills they haven't yet acquired. I do challenge, I do keep you to topic and I do expect you to match the efforts I'll go to, so if you truly want to tackle a problem then it's important to know it's going to take some effort from you too. You won't be alone but you will be responsible for your direction and your outcome.
Sessions available Monday and Tuesday, plus a Wednesday evening.
My first session
Your first session will be 50 minutes. You will have already taken part in a consultation session with me before hand, in order to sign up and explore your reasons for seeking counselling. In your first full session we'll further explore your reasons, hopes and goals for therapy and we'll make a start on building a connection and conversation. You can pick single session therapy with me or go down a route of working towards 6 sessions to see how it goes.
In all sessions you have the right to walk away at any point, I only ask that you talk that through with me, but your decision to leave will be fully supported if you feel therapy isn't for you or if you got all you needed quicker than you expected. I won't keep you signed up to therapy longer than is necessary so we'll have a review every 6 sessions to see where we you think you are with the work. You're in control; you can pick the frequency but I do recommend 1 session a month as a minimum for any benefit to be had.
Types of therapy
Behavioural, Brief therapy, CBT, Cognitive, Creative therapy, Humanistic, Integrative, Jungian, Person centred, Psychodynamic, Solution focused brief therapy, Transactional analysis

About me and my therapy practice
I trained as a supervisor to ensure counsellors felt able to discuss their issues with clients, themselves and the world in an environment dedicated to them feeling heard. I want to help you progress and shape your client work so that you feel willing and able to counsel.
I worked as a line manager previously and wanted to make sure that my work history contributed to my counselling career; supervision has been a great journey.
My counselling background is in GP surgeries, hospitals, IAPT and most recently working for an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as both a counsellor and supervisor.
I have over 5 years experience as a counsellor totalling over 3000 client hours. I work with trauma, risk, chronic illness, abuse, anxiety, relationships and depression in the EAP.
I've run my own private practice for 5 years also focusing on identity explorations, self-esteem and relationship issues.
I'm integrative with a person-centered core but I like to refer to TA, IFS, CBT, Jung and creative means when it suits the supervisee. I love hearing about new methods and theories and can help you unpack your CPD learning too.
It's a tough profession and often a lonely one; we carry so much of ourselves and our clients around with us. Feel free to offload, unpack and explore in a safe and engaging environment knowing I'm offering both a duty of care to you and your client base. Supervision is a place for your achievements, hopes, dreams and strengths too; it's important the whole of you is present in supervision. We can work on developing that too.
I'm not afraid of rupture, I only ask we work on repairing if it occurs, as this can often bring a strength to the supervisory relationship.
I use the Seven-eyed model for supervision and can offer concessionary rates to students.
You can pick 60 minutes or 90 or have a mix of both; whatever you feel you need each month according to your caseload and membership requirements.
Practice description
I'm person-centered trained (to MSc level 7), but feel my offering is now integrative. I'm qualified in Person Centered, TA 101, IFS informed, Adv Dip CBT, BSc Hons Psychology and have learnt other tools and perspectives along the way that allow me to use a variety of methods to help supervisees get to where they want to be with their practice. I'm qualified at Level 7 in Supervision.
I worked extensively with GP clients initially for 2 years, moving on since then to IAPT, college counselling, Healthy Minds and counselling within the NHS. I balance both private practice and EAP work currently; therefore I'm used to exploring what we might call 'portfolio work.'
I utilise the 7 Eyed Model of supervision but continue to expand my horizons on how best to supervise via regular CPD. I hold strong boundaries and reflect best practice by doing so. I won't compromise on these; you're absolutely a fellow colleague but I'm also here to ensure you work ethically for yourself and your client.
If you learn best creatively, visually, or practically then we'll go down that route; I believe in working to a person's strengths and helping them harness the skills they already have in order to help them achieve the skills they haven't yet acquired. I do challenge, I do keep you to topic and I do expect you to match the efforts I'll go to, so if you truly want to tackle problems and develop professionally and personally then I can support you. I'll treat you like a colleague but I'm unafraid to highlight any concerns I might have too. The safety of the client and your safety are my primary duties in supervision and I won't compromise on that. You'll get honest, transparent supervision from me with. A sense of humor is most welcome too.
I currently work via video call or telephone. I can also offer face to face on a Tuesday in Huddersfield.
There is also scope for outdoor supervision in the HD7 area.
My first session
Your first session will be either 60 or 90 minutes. You will have already taken part in a free consultation session in order to sign up and explore your goals for supervision. In your first full session we'll further explore your rationale, hopes and goals for supervision and we'll make a start on building a connection and conversation.
In all sessions you have the right to walk away at any point, I only ask that you talk that through with me, but your decision to leave will be fully supported if you feel the relationship isn't for you or if you got all you needed quicker than you expected. You're in control; you can pick the frequency but I do recommend 60 minutes as minimum, although you need to adhere to your governing body's requirements and are responsible for obtaining the correct hours for your level of practice.
Ad-hoc supervision and one-off supervision is also available.
