About me and my therapy practice
Hi there,
I’m Shirley-Anne and I am a qualified (2017) person-centred/integrative counsellor and (2010) life coach. I am passionate about nature-based and creative therapies and tailor my practice to suit your unique needs. Whether that is working outside in nature, comfortably in your own home by telephone or online, or face to face in one of my office spaces.
If you are trying therapy for the first time, it can be scary. It’s not easy to be open and vulnerable in the society we live in. I am here to create a safe space for you, without judgement. Think of it like me holding your hand, metaphorically, as you bring to the surface your experiences, concerns and emotions.
I am client led and understand that it can take a little time to feel comfortable with your counsellor. I can reassure you that we will work at a pace that suits you and that we will work together on the issues that you feel are key to your mental wellbeing.
If you have been to therapy before and found it helpful, we will explore what helped and how we can build on that success, or if you have struggled in therapy previously let’s work out why. We work together as a team, with your wellbeing at the forefront.
Having had counselling before, myself, I know it can sometimes feel daunting, and it’s ‘never’ the right time, but you have taken the first step in just reading this.
I am LGBGTQ+, neurodivergent, BAME and disability allied, and I am committed to providing safe, empathic and equitable support for my all clients.
Practice description
I very much see mental wellbeing as inextricable from physical, spiritual and social wellbeing. They are all pieces in the jigsaw puzzle that make us who we are. Sometimes the pieces lose their print and we can’t work out where they go and sometimes, they just get lost in the passage of life. Working with a counsellor can help you to find or replace those pieces, or rebrand them, building self-awareness, resilience and better understanding of your needs and emotions and creating a new 'narrative' for your life moving forward.
The best therapy is flexible to your individual needs and I aim to provide a variety of ways for you to access therapeutic support. Living in the middle of the Scottish Borders I am very fortunate to have stunning walks that we can access for walk-talk therapy and I offer intensive therapeutic retreats based at my beautiful forest farmhouse (subject to assessment and suitability).
Services offered:
Walk-Talk Therapy: route tailored your your needs
Telephone and Online Therapy: via Zoom or Teams
Face to Face Therapy: in DG13 and TD9 areas
Intensive Therapy Retreats: Residential
My first session
Your first session will offer us the opportunity to see if we would feel comfortable working together. The therapeutic relationship is key to your progress in therapy, so this is a hugely important first step.
We will briefly explore what you feel you would like to achieve from therapy and we will explore any risk factors that may be key to how we work together.
Your first session is free of charge and will last for 30 minutes. It will take place by telephone or online to suit your preference.
