About me and my therapy practice

I am a humanistic counsellor based in Brighton. I offer a friendly counselling service with sessions available in person and online (Zoom or phone), locally, throughout the UK and beyond. I grew up in The Netherlands and am keenly interested in multi-cultural experiences and belongingness. I welcome clients from all backgrounds, ethnicities, faiths and orientations, and I am committed to understanding and supporting each of my clients as unique individuals.

I offer both short-term and open-ended therapy, my private practice days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, please contact me for more information.

Practice description

I can support you in finding new meaning by helping you to describe and explore your difficulties, rather than for me to ‘analyse’, or ‘treat’ what is troubling you. Central is the trust-based relationship we develop through which we forge a way of working together which allows me to fully hear you, including what you need from me, in order to move forward.

I promise you a friendly, safe and professional relationship. One without judgement of difficult issues, one that calls you to have more of an explorative and deeper connection with yourself, where we can both look at your lived experience in a trusting, open, and honest way.

My past working life includes working as a Chartered Psychologist in academia after which I trained at first in mental health practice (Sussex University) before training as a humanistic psychotherapist (Brighton University). Besides my private practice I have undertaken a number of volunteering roles in local and national mental health well-being charities.

My first session

I offer a brief free no-obligation call which will help me get more of an idea about what brings you to counselling at this time. It will also give you the opportunity to tell me about your expectations, what hoped for changes may be important to you, as well as any questions you may have for me and see what it might be like working together.

If we then agree on a first counselling session, I will tell you then a little more about the way I work and the terms of our counselling agreement which you will receive an emailed copy of and ask a few questions about such as relevant personal history, and previous experiences of counselling.
