About me and my therapy practice

Seeking help from a professional can seem like a daunting and confusing task as there are lots of different counselling theories and approaches to choose from. There are many factors to be mindful of when choosing the style of counselling to go for. Things to consider are, choosing a style that resonates with you, that you understand and you understand how you can benefit from it.

Within my practice I provide a safe, non-judgemental, professional and confidential environment in which you can explore whatever you feel necessary. Through exploring these issues, we can both begin to understand what is happening and why. This process can assist in self-understanding which in-turn boosts self-confidence and compassion. With this knowledge you may then become empowered to make the necessary changes needed in your life to address whatever has been causing the discomfort.

I offer a free initial 20-minute session either over the phone or by video call to talk through the issues you want to explore. This initial session gives you the opportunity to meet/talk with me to enable you to decide whether you feel comfortable working with me and to explore the potential help I can offer and also the most suitable counselling approach to take. During this session we will explore what you wish to achieve during the course of our work and we will mutually agree the number of sessions required to achieve this. I understand this can be a hard first step so if you have any questions regarding therapy please give me a call or send an email – I will respond within 24 hours. Should you decide to embark on therapy your first session will be arranged at a time that is convenient to you.

I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am qualified in Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Schema Therapy.

About me and my therapy practice

Within supervision it is important to be open and honest in exploration of self and client work, which can only fully be achieved when practitioners feel held and completely supported. My ethos to supervision is to provide a warm, supportive, and professional environment where supervisees can explore all aspects of their client work so they can process the impacts that their workload has on them, maximise their wellbeing whilst understanding, meeting and responding to their clients’ needs more fully.

Working together we will seek to gain awareness of self and practice and further develop appropriate ways to help you grow and develop in practice. We will also look to maintain a sense balance through integrated self-care routines and appropriate prevention strategies to cope with the demands of the profession.

Finding a supervisor, who is the right fit for you and the way you work is vitally important to help you stay grounded, maintain professional and ethical boundaries, whilst also developing both theoretical and practical knowledge. It is vital that we both feel comfortable and at ease in our working relationship so we may achieve the most we can from our sessions. An initial 30-minute session is offered for us both to get a sense of how we could work together and ensure that we are a comfortable fit.

Practice description

I currently offer supervision online via Zoom, Teams or Skype, with a view to re-start face to face sessions in early 2023.

I have undertaken training in both Person-Centred Theory and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and am able to offer supervision to therapists who work solely within either of these theories or who use a blended approach within these theories.

I work within Proctors Model of supervision, which consists of three domains;

Formative (growth-based): which relates to learning, skills development and professional identity development.

Normative (monitoring-based): which refers to accountability, developing best practice, ethical and legal considerations and professional standards for the wellbeing of clients.

Restorative (Support-based): which considers the impact of the work on the supervisee, and the necessary psychological support and scaffolding required to offer professional support to the supervisee.

Whilst predominantly working within the Seven-Eyed Supervision model I also bring in elements of various other supervision models depending on the supervisees needs.

My first session

During our initial 30-minute session we will talk through expectations of supervision and a working agreement. This will cover the aims of supervision, the theoretical frameworks I use, practicalities of our work, such as location and frequency, roles and responsibilities, how you like to present your work, areas of self-development, how ethical frameworks will inform work, whilst also discussing safeguarding, record keeping, confidentiality and GDPR.

Coming to the end of our first session, potential supervisees will have a clear sense of how I work and how we could work together going forward.

Please get in touch on the details provided if you wish to discuss any of this further.
