About me and my therapy practice

Working in Cardiff, and online in the UK

Hi, my name is Philip,

I am a NARM (neuro affective relational model) Therapist, specialising in addressing developmental trauma and its associated symptoms.

I work with CPTSD and its associated symptoms.

It is a misconception that developmental trauma involves chronic abuse and neglect.

The reality is that mis-attuned parenting, experiences of abandonment or inadequate parenting can have a massive impact on a developing child's personality and sense of self.

Most of our adult challenges have origins in our early relationships, the adult who struggles to stand up for themselves or cannot set limits or say "no", could well be the child that learned to dis-connect from their healthy protest due to parents that could not hold space for the child's protest, and projected shame and guilt onto the child or even turned away and delivered a mini abandonment every time they showed up authentically, this child learns really quickly that the emotion of anger is dangerous to their attachments.

This adult ,may hold  negative beliefs about themselves and be prone to depression and anxiety, these are strategies for avoiding the dangerous emotion of anger.

NARM gives us a space to unpick and dissolve away these old patterns of dis-connection.

I support somatic enquiry into the internal self relationship that reveals the emotional landscape and human capacities related to connection, attunement, trust, autonomy and love/sexuality.

The NARM model supports us to explore our emotional landscape, sense of identity, identity distortions like, toxic shame, self-hatred and chronic guilt.

I know how tough it can be to take that first step into therapy and I also know that we all want different things, but a warm friendly welcome really helps to start off with.

My practice is currently online.

I have some access to a face to face space in Cardiff.

I would love to meet you, get to know you and accompany you on your journey.

Philip.

About me and my therapy practice

My name is Philip and I work as a NARM Therapist, I support people to explore and understand what they are struggling with or what is getting in their way.

I work mostly with the symptoms of developmental trauma and CPTSD.

Now you may think that trauma is catastrophic abuse or neglect, however it can also involve failures in our early caregiving attachments like inadequate caregiving and nurture, abandonment and over controlling parenting styles.

I work with our human capacity for Connection,  Attunement, Trust, Autonomy, Love and sexuality.

If any of these capacities are compromised it can show up in our attachment styles, behaviours and emotional landscape.

Symptoms like anxiety, depression , self-hatred ,toxic shame and behavioural tendencies like withdrawal and self-sabotage can indicate a deeper developmental conflict which drives the surface level symptoms.

By utilising the NARM model we can dissolve away these old patterns and reconnect to our vitality, confidence and assertiveness, while holding a warm kind, caring internal view of ourselves.
