About me and my therapy practice
Are you feeling anxious or suffering from a low mood? Perhaps you are experiencing relationship problems or struggling to understand yourself? Having a safe, supportive space where you can explore these issues can be a useful way of developing self-awareness and becoming a more well-rounded person.
I work predominantly in a humanistic way, tailoring my approach to the individual and their unique set of needs. By exploring someone's feelings and how they relate to past experiences, important insights can be gained into how they are living their lives now and how they view the future. My integrative approach to counselling draws on a number of psychotherapeutic theories, but I place the importance of relationship at the heart of my practice.
Any difficulties that you may be experiencing will be dealt with sensitively and in a transparent manner. I take a down-to-earth approach to counselling and always encourage individuals to be as authentic as possible. Through gentle exploration and kindly curiosity, maybe we can find the answers that you are looking for?
Practice description
I offer an open-ended or short-term service, giving you as much time as you need. Each session lasts for 1 hour, allowing you the opportunity to discuss any problems or issues that may be affecting you. I work with individuals who are over 18 and who wish to explore their challenging emotions.
I work in both private practice and for NHS Talking Therapies. I am an accredited member of the BACP and offer a concessionary rate to students. I find working with counselling students particularly rewarding and occasionally lecture on the University of Suffolk's counselling degree course.
I am based in the east of Ipswich and within easy reach of Felixstowe.
My first session
I appreciate that starting counselling can be a big step. Rest assured, it is not as scary as you think.
The first session gives us the opportunity to get to know one another. I have a contract which explains how confidentiality works within counselling and the boundaries that are put in place to help the therapeutic process. You are under no obligation to commit to a number of sessions and can stop at any time.
On first contact, if you could briefly outline why you would like to access counselling, I can then make sure I'm a suitable fit. Its then just a matter of arranging an appointment.
I look forward to meeting you!
