About me and my therapy practice

At times we can find ourselves feeling overwhelmed and less able to cope with the challenges life brings. For some such experiences may be relatively short-lived and for others symptoms such as anxiety, depression, numbness, unmanageable anger, low self-esteem and destructive behaviours or coping mechanisms may have affected us for a longer period of time.

I work both on-line and face to face and offer short term and longer term counselling to both adults and young people.

My trauma informed integrated approach is grounded in Person-Centred Theory. This means I help my clients develop their own understanding of what is right for them. I use other theoretical approaches and interventions to help my clients to better understand themselves and the difficulties they encounter. Psychodynamic, Attachment, CBT theories and the Mind Body Approach inform my Person-Centred work, and I use Creative Interventions and Pyscho-educational tools where appropriate to help foster greater personal insight and awareness.

My commitment to the non-judgemental acceptance of my clients stems from my understanding that:

'Our suffering comes from those parts of our psyche that are unseen, that are unfelt'.

(Karl Young)

Practice description

My aim is to come alongside my clients - to really listen and understand how they experience life. I work collaboratively with my clients - taking into account what they want and need and how they want to work. I will also offer insights and suggestions if I think this may be of help to my clients, without directing our work together.  My hope is to help my clients make sense of their experiences. And, in so doing, help them discover new ways of being, feeling and relating both to themselves and to other people.

On enquiry I will arrange a 15 minute call with you - so you can get an idea of how you feel about the possibility of working with me and so I can get an idea if I'm best placed to help you. If you decide you'd like a first session to explore counselling with me we will make the arrangements together.

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work with adults and young people. I have a CBCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and an CPCAB Advanced Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People. I work in private practice and have spent 5 years combined working in the charitable sector at Cotswold Counselling and TIC+ (Teens in Crisis).

My first session

Our first session will be focused on what brings you to counselling and what you hope to get out of it. It will also give you a taster for how it might feel to work with me and whether the type of counselling I offer will be helpful for you. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask me any questions you may have. If we decide to work together we will plan in six sessions initially and then review the work.
