About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Alexandra.
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. My training is 'Integrative’ which means that I see everything as connected and I work with trauma in a way which seeks to restore wholeness. Getting your body, emotions, and mind working together to keep you well. Supporting you to reflect on what feels broken or disconnected or missing. I seek to offer a warm and supportive partnership, understanding together what brings you to therapy. We will talk about the past but I also want to help you to think, feel, and notice what is going on for you now. The things which have brought you to therapy.
Increasingly these days therapists understand that trauma sits in the body and in our nervous system and I ascribe to this position. So I use polyvagal theories, non-verbal noticing of sensations and somatic experiences and I support clients to use the breath and physical movement in therapy if that is clinically appropriate. This is something that I will do alongside you as we explore what happens to you in the here and now as you live your life.
Faith and Spirituality; I have been an Anglican Priest for twenty years so I work comfortably and happily with questions of spirituality, meaning, identity, life's rituals and changes, death and dying. I am very experienced in working with clients who have experienced spiritual abuse and / or estrangement from faith communities including supporting you to leave a community which is hurting you. For the avoidance of doubt I am entirely affirming and supportive of clients wishing to explore aspects of faith and spirituality, gender, sexual orientation and neurodivergence.
I am neuro-divergent.
Practice description
Your therapy sessions are strictly confidential except in certain circumstances which I will discuss with you when we start.
I work using the developing relationship between you and I. This means you can expect me to be warm, engaging and gently challenging.
I work with both unconscious processes and body based interventions which target the nervous system, as many therapists now do. Drawing your attention to your physical sensations and to what you are feeling and noticing in your body as we talk.
My first session
When you contact me I will invite you to an initial short 'assessment' session (normally about 30 minutes) to explore with you how I might help, to see if we are a good fit, and to check that I am competent and trained to work with what you are bringing. There is no charge for this short session. If we agree to work together I will normally suggest we begin with six sessions and then review how we are doing. I charge £70.00 a session and I am not currently able to offer financial concessions to new clients.
