About me and my therapy practice
Hello I am Jaz, a counselling therapist with over 6 years experience located in North Leeds and the City Centre. I offer compassionate and effective counselling tailored to your unique needs. My integrative approach combines person-centered, gestalt, and CBT therapies, along with a focus on the body-mind connection. I'm experienced in working with bereavement and loss, anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties. I also specialise in complex issues, including trauma and PTSD. Together, we can explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to develop coping strategies and regain control of your life.
I can integrate different therapies to provide insight into root causes of psychological distress and/or barriers preventing you from living your life the way you would want. The theories I refer begin with offering a humanistic base (which means putting you at the centre of the therapy), and then include working creatively to tailor to individual need.
I have 6 years experience working with vulnerable women in Leeds. This has led me to train in a trauma sensitive approach. Which allows working in a gentle and client informed way on the impact of the trauma to process it. I have over 8 years experience working with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression and trauma.
I also have 5 years of experience, knowledge and skills working with Cruse bereavement care. Here I focused on supporting clients with bereavement, loss and issues that arise from it.
Practice description
I offer an initial free telephone consultation to clients, this enables us to explore what is going on for you and how I work. This may include an exploration of your daily patterns including sleeping, eating and how you relate to others around you. Sessions will typically be weekly on the same day/time. We can discuss any flexibility with this. I have experience providing both short and long term therapy.
I work holistically, which means I incorporate talking therapy with a body based approach. This includes techniques to calm and manage anxiety such as grounding, breathing and mindfulness. I am also a trained Yoga Teacher and can integrate this into your therapy sessions if this is helpful.
I offer explanations of what may be happening for you in the body, brain and nervous system for example when you are feeling anxious. This understanding can be helpful in learning how to manage any symptoms you may be experiencing.
I have a small space for 'walk and talk' therapy in a park local to me. We can discuss this further in your consultation if it is something that interests you.
My experience includes working with diversity in terms of age, culture, gender and background.
My first session
I offer a free telephone consultation to new clients. This will be for a maximum of 30 minutes. It allows us to explore your symptoms, how you are currently managing these, the support structure you may have around you, your patterns of eating, sleeping etc. This is also an opportunity for you to find out about how I work and how therapy can be structured. You may have questions at this stage, these are welcome at any point in your therapy. We can also discuss payment and additional documents I will need you to complete prior to starting your therapy (contract and personal information).
