About me and my therapy practice

I provide primarily person-centred counselling, while incorporating CBT tools when beneficial. I offer a confidential, non-judgmental space where you can share thoughts and feelings safely, aiming for a better understanding of yourself, or your situation. Through this clients can work out how to change the unhelpful things in life, if they choose to.

Choosing the right counsellor for you is one of the most important parts of the process. It helps to foster a safe, trusting relationship that supports a person to gain insights and make informed decisions.

Person-centred counselling focuses on active listening and empowering clients to find their own solutions. It puts the client at the heart of the process. CBT includes techniques and tools to further help explore and understand thoughts, feelings, or behaviours, or to regulate emotions such as anxiety, depression or low self-esteem.

My approach is also trauma-informed, allowing me to effectively support in addressing various complex or difficult challenges faced by clients.

Practice description

We all respond differently to life's challenges. We are all unique in our selves and in the circumstances life presents to us. Some people struggle a lot of the time, and some sail through difficult stuff, but then struggle with something that they would normally expect to manage easily.

Whatever the situation, I make it a priority to tailor my approach to each client's needs, ensuring personalized support. I believe this helps to develop the trusting and safe relationship, which is so important to helping someone in their understanding of themselves or their situation, and identifying any changes that might help them going forwards.

Alongside my private practice I have also worked within a number of organisations who deliver counselling within the community. This has included supporting survivors of domestic abuse or sexual abuse, as well as organisations which support general mental health problems, and people with carer responsibilities. I also have a solid understanding of mental health issues within the workplace.

If you are struggling with your thoughts, emotions or behaviours, or would like to explore specific experiences in your life, speaking with a professional Counsellor in a safe, supportive environment may help. Taking that first step can lead to meaningful changes in your life.

My first session

In counselling sessions, you, the client, decides what you want to focus on. I actively listen and help explore issues without giving specific advice or telling you what to do. Sometimes, I might gently challenge to help you understand yourself better, but you move at your own pace and in a manner that best suits you.

The first session differs from other sessions. It includes reviewing the counselling agreement and completing an assessment to understand why you are seeking counselling. This is all done in a relaxed manner and at your own pace.

Each session lasts 50 minutes.

If you would like to reach out, I'm available for a free, no-obligation initial telephone consultation to help you determine if I can assist you.
