About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced therapist and counsellor and I am trained in Integrative Transpersonal Counselling. I work holistically with a variety of therapeutic tools although my foundation is in psychodynamic practice . This means that I believe in the relevance and impact of early life experiences and their ongoing effect on our present lives and the relationships we make. I work in a holistic way, meaning that I view everyone as unique and having many different aspects to them, this is why an integrative approach is invaluable. Finding alternative ways of viewing self in connection with difficult experiences and emotions can facilitate a way through to greater clarity and understanding. The transpersonal is an integral part of this and includes soul which may be understood in many different ways and is peculiar to each person. It may manifest simply as a sense of belonging in the world and with nature , being curious about self and finding direction ,pursuing interests and passions to name just a few.
I am also an HCPC registered art therapist; I believe that creativity in its many forms can provide an alternative and valuable form of communication. At times words are hard to find or just don't adequately express our meaning or emotions .I always have art materials with me should anyone wish to make use of them as a part of their sessions. Art therapy is also offered as the primary means of working .
I have over 30 years experience of working both as a therapist and teacher, assisting adults who are dealing with mental health challenges ; this work has been within the NHS , social services adult education and community based projects .
I continue to work through my basic philosophy that creativity in whatever form it takes, alongside respect for the integrity of each individual, the place they find themselves in and the path they wish to follow is vital to working in any therapeutic partnership.
