About me and my therapy practice
Are you experiencing loss? A bereavement or relationship breakdown perhaps? Of self-esteem, enjoyment in life due to depression or confidence due to anxiety? I help people to process loss and regain their sense of self and purpose.
I can help you to progress towards overcoming any of these challenges in a sensitive and collaborative way. As an Integrative Counsellor, I tailor my approach to best suit your needs. At the heart of this I will be offering a compassionate, empathic and non-judgemental space where you can share your difficulties, express your feelings and be heard and understood. I may also draw on other relevant approaches which fit well with what you are bringing to sessions. Above all, we will work together to find an effective way forward for you.
Additional Training
I have undertaken additional training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) , Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) which I can incorporate in sessions if we decide these approaches are likely to be useful to you. Mindfulness is helpful for stress and anxiety, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of issues, especially depression and anxiety, and Compassion Focused Therapy is effective for self-esteem issues, self-criticism and shame. For more information on these ways of working, please see my website.
Experience
I started my private practice in 2019, after two and a half years volunteering on placement with a low-cost counselling service. I was employed in wellbeing and mental health services (within the NHS then at the University of Exeter with students) from 2008 until 2022 when I became fully self-employed.
Practice description
I offer sessions in person in Exeter and Newton Abbot, as well as online if you would find that more convenient. I work Monday to Friday and can offer sessions in the early evenings if you need them at that time to fit around your working schedule.
Each session lasts for 1 hour.
I am committed to offering affordable counselling. The minimum charge per session is £45 and the suggested rate is £55, but the exact amount you pay for each session between these figures is at your discretion.
There is lots of additional information on my website if you would like more detail about how I work: https://exetercounsellingandmindfulness.com. I also offer Mindfulness Courses and Compassionate Mind Training, details of which can also be found on my website.
My first session
I offer an initial free half hour consultation by phone or video call so you can decide if I am the right counsellor for you.
This can be arranged by either booking online through the form on my website, emailing me via the column on the left of this page or phoning 01392 531552. This consultation will give us the opportunity to talk through what you are seeking counselling for, what you would like to gain from it and how I would work with what you are bringing, to help you decide whether I would be the right counsellor for you.
I look forward to hearing from you.
