About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Sam and I'm a psychotherapeutic counsellor working in Fuzhou, China.
I work with people of all ages, and can offer counselling for many different mental health problems. I work in an integrative person centered framework. This means that I believe that you're the expert on yourself and your life, and what we do together is work out how you can become the best version of yourself. We do this in many different ways, through talking, creativity, breathing techniques... whatever you're comfortable with.
Much of my experience is with children, addictions (alcohol, drugs, and gambling), and grief and bereavement. I also have experience with migrants and expats, suffering with depression, anxiety, and culture shock among other mental health concerns brought on by moving away from home.
If you're suffering at the moment, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Practice description
Gathering Thoughts was founded in April 2024 in Fuzhou, Fujian, China. Our office is based in Central Fifth Avenue (中央第五街) in Taijiang District.
Don't be put off, I am qualified to provide online counselling to those all over China and the world. In 2019 I took a course through the Online Therapy Institute to make sure that I am providing online counselling safely and effectively.
Gathering Thoughts also offers online meditation classes, monthly workshops, and art and craft classes. I work in many different mediums in order to improve global mental health.
My first session
The first session with Sam and Gathering Thoughts is a free session.
During this session we will go through our counselling agreement and make sure that we're both happy with the counselling conditions and make any changes necessary. Sometimes this takes 5 minutes, sometimes this takes 30 minutes. It also allows you to ask any questions you have about counselling and what it is, voice any concerns you have about payments, and consider what time is best for you to attend. Then I will ask a little about what's brought you to counselling and any goals you have for the therapy.
This first session gives us time to make sure that we can work well together to meet those goals. Sometimes therapists and clients just don't gel well, or the client's concerns are out of the remit of the counsellors experience. If this is the case, I will make sure that you can be refered to another specialised counsellor.
Because the first session has the potential to involve a lot of 'logistics', and we're trying out the relationship, as well as experiencing counselling for the first time, I offer it as a free session. There is no financial obligation, which can sometimes help take a weight off.
