About me and my therapy practice
Working to the client’s agenda and pace, my Integrative client-led style is both collaborative and supportive, providing a confidential and non-judgmental space for reflective exploration of the self. I believe that by deepening one’s awareness of self, clients can gain the confidence to challenge and overcome those past traumas that may be negatively impacting on them in the here and now. Usually working on an open ended basis, I aim to provide a safe and accepting environment where clients can look to find a deeper understanding of themselves, exploring areas where they may feel stuck, uncover repeating patterns in their relationships, or a space to confront and overcome negative behaviours, thoughts and feelings that may be getting in the way of them achieving a happier, more contented life.
Practice description
Every client is a unique individual. Taking this as a starting point, as a trained integrative counsellor I will look to draw on a range of different therapeutic approaches in order to deliver a service that is tailored to the uniqueness of the client need. The integrative approach that I use incorporates techniques such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), person-centred therapy, and psychodynamic attachment theory.
My first session
Having taken the courageous decision to reach out for therapy, for those individuals who have never experienced therapy before I can understand it might be a little unsettling to take that first step into the unknown. Please be assured that as the client you will be placed at the center of the process at all times.
The first step would be for us to have an initial 30-minute phone/video call for you to decide if I offer the right kind of therapy for you. If you feel that we might be a good fit we can then arrange a time for an initial consultation. The initial meeting is an extremely important one. The quality of the relationship between client and therapist is a vital component in the client’s journey of healing. The initial meeting will give us a chance to not only discuss what has brought you to therapy at this point in your life but also allow us to form a sense of whether we can work effectively together. During the first session, we would look to discuss the therapeutic contract that outlines the boundaries of our working relationship, covering areas such as client confidentiality, session payment and cancellation policy.
There is no obligation to commit to further therapy sessions after the first appointment. If after the first session you feel you would like to continue your therapy with me, we can then discuss a suitable day and time which will become your regular weekly appointment.
