About me and my therapy practice
Have you found yourself battling with some difficult or confusing feelings? Maybe a relationship is causing you concern but you don’t know how to make things different or better. Perhaps feelings of anxiety are interfering with day to day life. Family and friends can be a great support, but sometimes the people in our lives think they know what we should do, offer solutions from their perspective, or judge us for the decisions we make or feelings we might have. This is where it can really help to speak with a counsellor.
I have over 20 years of experience working therapeutically and in-depth with people from a wide range of age groups, backgrounds, beliefs and circumstances. I am a qualified person centred therapist and I aim to treat everyone with warmth, empathy and compassion. I believe the relationship we build is key to facilitating healing and growth.
Together we will explore what is troubling you at a pace that’s right for you. I hope you will quickly find that you can feel safe and accepted. I have undertaken counselling myself and understand that this can bring about feelings of vulnerability and anxiety. I also know how supportive and healing counselling can be.

Training
I am committed to learning and growing, both personally and professionally. I have completed training in Emotion Focused Therapy and when appropriate will make use of this way of working during sessions.
I have also completed courses in 'mindful self compassion' and use this in my own life. I have learned a lot from past training in a wide range of topics, including attachment theory, addiction issues, shame, personality disorders, mental health, ASD, self-harm and ASIST - suicide intervention skills. I am very interested in new research around trauma and how this can impact on all areas of people's lives. I have completing several courses based on work of Dr Gabor Mate and Dr Bessel van der Kolk.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute phone/video call where I can explain more fully what you can expect, while you tell me a little about what brings you to counselling. We can then decide whether I will be the best fit for you.
If you decide to proceed with counselling, each session will last one hour. You decide the frequency that works best for you; most people find weekly or fortnightly sessions most helpful.
Some people might wish to attend for a time limited period of five/six sessions, while others benefit from longer term therapy to address deeper issues. The number of sessions required might be apparent from the first session or will become more clear as therapy progresses. Ultimately, you decide how many sessions you wish to attend.
If you'd like to talk with me, please contact me by text, phone or email and I will aim to get back to you within 24 hours.
