About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Jo.
I am a qualified Person-Centred counsellor and I specialise in bereavement and pre-bereavement grief.
I offer a relaxed, non-judgemental, confidential space, where you can feel comfortable to express how you truly feel; talking openly about what you are experiencing.
Grieving is extremely painful, overwhelming, and unpredictable. Unfortunately I cannot fix this pain, as I cannot bring a loved one back. However, I can be your guide as you work through the mourning process, learning to accommodate your loss as you adjust to a new normal. I can help you grow your life around your grief, with the ability to remember your loved one with more love than pain.
My work as bereavement counsellor at a hospice has given me valuable experience in supporting people whose loved one has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Feelings and thoughts experienced at this time can be just as intense and difficult as those after death. You may feel a sense of relief being able to offload and to talk things through, feeling less weighed down and distressed. This may make the situation easier to deal with, and enables you to put your energy into spending meaningful time with your loved one.
I am an accredited professional member with the Foundation for Infant loss and have undertaken their training to support parents who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss or sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
Practice description
Although there is no right or wrong way to grieve, my training on bereavement has helped me to identify various theories and frameworks that work well to support you through the mourning process.
For more information about how I can support you if a loved one has been given a terminal diagnosis, or to work through the mourning process in a healthy way, please take a look at my website at www.jovinall.co.uk.
My first session
In the first session, it’s important for me to understand how you like me to support you.
The first session normally starts with you telling me about how your loved one died, or when they received their terminal diagnosis. However, I will always be guided you and your comfort levels.
