Benefits of Online Counselling
Accessibility
Online counselling sessions are accessible to nearly everyone! It is a very inclusive form of therapy. It is perfect for those who are geographically isolated. Online therapy is a good alternative for people with physical limitations.
Let’s face it, Stress can happen anywhere! So, if you are away on business or holiday, you don’t have to miss your counselling session. If you have an internet connection, then you can access your therapy session.
Convenience
Online counselling allows you to have therapy from the comfort of your own home. No traveling time, which gives you more time to do the things you enjoy doing.
Appointment times may be more flexible for both you and your online counsellor because being at home is more convenient for both of you. So, if you work full time and out-of-hours appointments are better for you, then you can still attend therapy without taking time off work.
Openness
There is something about the virtual world that makes opening up and sharing personal information and experiences a little easier. Maybe there’s a feeling of safety behind the screen. In the comfort of your own home, you may be more likely to be your true self allowing your vulnerability to come through during your counselling sessions.
I offer face-to-face and online therapy for counselling and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).
Online therapy sessions are carried out during the daytime, including on Saturdays.
About me and my therapy practice
I'm Rachael, and I'm a psychotherapist using EMDR and counselling. I work with adults.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is an evidence-based therapy (also offered by the NHS) that helps people to process traumatic memories. It is particularly effective for people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but is also used for low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, phobias, traumatic grief, and more.
For both counselling and EMDR, a good therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect for me. I provide a safe space where you can share whatever you want. I work with anger issues, grief, stress, PTSD, self-harm, trauma, anxiety, bereavement, anxiety, depression, loss, phobias, addiction, co-dependency, and more. My particular area of interest is co-dependency.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked for over 15 years in the addiction field. I have worked in drug and alcohol agencies, prisons, homeless drop-in centers, and hostels.
If you are thinking about having counselling or EMDR therapy, please feel free to get in touch to book or ask any questions. I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation.
The cost of counseling differs from the EMDR sessions, so please get in touch to ask about the therapy rates.
My first session
Our first session is usually an assessment and a chance for us to get to know each other, and you can decide if you feel comfortable enough to work with me, which hopefully you will. :)
I sometimes email a few short questionnaires to give me an idea of your anxiety levels and about how your mood is. Filling these in at home isn't compulsory, as they can be done in our first session.
After the assessment, we can collaboratively make a treatment plan for future sessions.

My first session
Our first session will be about helping you settle and feel comfortable so that we can build a safe, warm relationship where you can talk freely, knowing that you are not being judged.
During the first session, we can talk about your expectations of counselling and the goals you wish to achieve from our sessions. I sometimes ask clients to fill in questionnaires depending on the presenting issues.
I am a warm, friendly, down-to-earth person, and my goal is to help you to feel relaxed and comfortable from the start.
