About me and my therapy practice
I have personally experienced what a difference counselling can make by encouraging my clients to explore their emotions, uncomfortable thoughts and difficult feelings within the safe and calm environment that I provide. People often feel they are suffering alone and I know exactly how that feels too. Through the counselling process, I aim to support my clients in becoming motivated and empowered to grow, able to overcome any obstacles, reduce their pain and suffering, become self-reliant, and make their hopes a reality.
I take pride in being able to support clients regardless of their culture, race, gender, identity, age, sexuality or views within a trusting therapeutic relationship ("relational"). I am especially passionate about supporting clients who feel like they don’t fit in, and who have experienced discrimination, abuse, trauma or shame.
How I work is "integrative", which means I respect each client as a unique individual who can benefit from various counselling theories and approaches appropriate to their situation and concern.
By being heard, totally accepted and without any judgement, my clients are able to question how they view themselves and who they are living for during the counselling process ("Person-centred/Humanistic").
When required, I help my clients explore their past to identify the root cause of their concerns and identify patterns of unhealthy behaviours and relationships in order to "break the cycle" ("Psychodynamic").
When my clients feel stuck, I support them in connecting with their feelings rather than intellectualising them. I support and accept clients’ experiences calmly and unconditionally while helping them to manage and take control of their emotions, especially when they have had painful experiences and unconsciously hide their main emotions ("Emotionally focused therapy").
Practice description
I provide sets of 50-minute sessions. Clients can choose their choice of support either in-person, via MS Team (video) or telephone.
In-person counselling is offered at my practice near Preston Park and Fiveways in Brighton and is on the first floor.
The working alliance I form with each client is built on trust. We'll agree on how we’ll work together at the start which includes confidentiality, our contract, and their therapeutic goals.
I am a National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) approved Licensed Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD) practitioner and an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Profession. I take the confidentiality of my client’s data very seriously and comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). My clients’ data is encrypted and stored digitally and securely. I am also insured.
My other qualifications include Therapeutic Counselling Diploma from the Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), National Counselling Society’s Advanced Training Certificate in Bereavement Support, The Professional BSY Crisis and Trauma Counselling Diploma and City & Guilds Understanding Suicide Interventions Certificate.
In addition to my private practice, I support clients through NHS Talking Therapies (IAPT Services). I have also provided bereavement support and LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy in London and Brighton.
