About me and my therapy practice
Coming to therapy can feel like a big step. At least it did for me! Most people at different times in their lives face problems that may seem insurmountable, seem to be recurrent or seem rooted in their pasts. These can be very difficult times but being with someone who can truly listen to you and help you explore yourself, your issues and emotions can help bring about the change you seek.
I am fully qualified counsellor, registered with, and Accredited by the BACP. I have worked in many different environments and have experience in working with a wide range of clients from young people upwards. You may have issues to do with anxiety, grief, trauma, self-esteem, anger, ADHD, depression, family issues, addiction, phobias or other things.
I see my job not as a means to 'fixing' you as though you were a machine, but to accompany you collaboratively as you find your way towards a deeper and more embodied sense of self-awareness and understanding.
Practice description
My core training is in Person-Centred Therapy into which I also incorporate my training in and study of Psychodynamic, Psychoanalytic, Cognitive, Attachment and Trauma approaches as well as a focus on the importance of somatic or body processing. In addition, I have myself suffered a number of significant issues and so bring also I hope to my practice a deep sense of understanding and compassion.
Often, I think, we come to therapy in order to discover the true reason why we have come to therapy. The source of the issue is not always apparent but in the supportive and unhurried space of our therapy sessions, and with the care and experience I will bring to them, the agency and inherent self-healing abilities we all possess can be stimulated.
I am committed to my own continuing professional development meaning that I undergo trainings and knowledge development throughout each year.
My first session
When you first contact me I will give you the option of a telephone conversation so that we can discuss whether you think I am the right therapist for you. I work both short term and more psychotherapeutically long-term. There is no commitment required for how long you remain in therapy. In our first session we can discuss whether you wish to think about how many sessions you want or if you want to work open-ended.
Our sessions will be an hour in length. That hour is there for you. This means that there is no pressure on you to perform or be a certain way.
What is paramount for me is that you feel at ease in our sessions and so the manner in which we work will be dictated by your own needs and goals.
