About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome to my page,

I'm glad that something has brought you to click on my profile. You may be wondering how a therapist like me can help you. This may be especially true if you're noticing the differences between us. Our race and gender may differ, we may be treated very differently because of how we move, think, feel and look.

You may often feel that out in the world you have to hide, change or control aspects of yourself. I would like to relate to you as you truly feel yourself to be. This extends especially to those who feel they are not always free to express aspects of their identity openly without meeting with discrimination. I hope that by acknowledging the reality of this we can come to a place of mutual trust where you can share yourself freely without fear of judgement, defensiveness or other oppressive reactions you may have experienced.

You may be under a lot of pressure to be someone else, to change how you behave or feel. You may want to change and feel frustrated that you can't seem to. You may end up feeling tense, anxious or drained and numb. Coming to counselling can seem like a daunting step to take.

There isn't a right way to do therapy but having someone there with us can often make that feel more manageable. Together we can work out what you need to enable you to take control of how you see yourself and your life. How we do that is something we can speak about more when we meet. I look forward to meeting you then.

I am LGBTQIA+ allied, support Racial Justice and an anti-ableist view of neurodivergence. I believe in an empowerment approach to working with disordered eating and trauma. I am climate aware.

I am a BACP accredited therapist currently working as lecturer on a Person-Centred Counselling course in addition to my work in anti-racism for the therapy community and emotional support groups for local refugees and asylum seekers.

Practice description

I practice from 8 The Drive and 198 Church Rd. in Hove. It is a newly renovated and wheelchair accessible building. We have implemented extensive safety measures including added ventilation in order to ensure safety during the present crisis.

It is serviced by the 1, 1a, 6 and 49 bus routes (alight between Sackville Road and George Street for 198). We are about 5mins drive from Hove railway station. Pay & display parking is directly outside the practice and in several nearby streets as well as across the road at Tesco's.

My first session

I offer a free introductory session face to face, online or via telephone for us to meet each other and give you the opportunity to decide if you feel like I am the counsellor you would most like to work with. If you would like to continue sessions would last 50 min and be at the same agreed time each week. I operate a sliding scale ranging from 40-80 pounds (50-90 for couples) per session based on a self assessment of your ability to pay and open to change to match your circumstances. This enables me to provide my services more easily to those on the lowest incomes. I also offer concessions to counselling students. This can be negotiated either prior to our initial meeting or during the introductory session. In case of face to face introductory sessions I do ask a 10 pound fee to cover the cost of room hire.

I look forward to meeting you.
