About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome!

I am a Single Session Relationship Therapist. My work is focused on supporting individuals and couples, of any gender identity or sexual orientation, with issues related to their relationship or sexual relationship.

My therapy is a one session at a time approach. Many clients only have one session. Some clients have 2 or 3 single sessions over a period of two or three months.

My work is based on lived and learnt experiences. I am here to offer you a compassionate, safe, non-judgemental space to untie any issue so you can thrive in your living experience.

Examples of what one session can offer:

- make clear an ongoing relationship or sexual issue,

- get to the bottom of long term problems,

- communication strategies for high level, intimate communication,

- bring to light hidden barriers in the relationship,

- verbalise something that has been weighing you down,

- draw you closer to foster bonds of high intimacy, or

- used to form the steps of an amicably separate with the least emotional upset or cost incurred.

- create understanding & a way forward after a crisis point, e.g. porn/sex issue in relationship, infidelity, erectile issues, intimacy, loss of identity.

- neutralising trauma

I have expertise in:

~ couples counselling: communication, sex & intimacy issues, impact of childhood issues or unexpressed grief.

~ individuals with sexual trauma/issues, sexual anxiety, sexual covert trauma (body or sexual shame/messages), communicating sexual needs and consent within erotic landscape.

~ men's issues, inc: sex and porn addiction (compulsivity), grief & loss, emotional distress, relationship breakdown, sex issues.

~ partners, parents or professionals struggling to deal with and communicate issues related to sex, the use of porn or historic sexual trauma.

I have worked with a wide range of issues within the NHS, at a local hospice and in my private practice.

I have other long term services which can be viewed on my website.

Practice description

I work one session at a time which is a Single Session Therapy approach. You book one session at a time. At the beginning of the session is an agreed focus related to your Relationship or sexual relationship.

During the session, I use a purposeful mix of active listening, relevant psycho-education and proven interventions from psychotherapy, counselling and coaching.

I believe education offers transformation so that forms a key aspect of my approach. I adapt my style to meet your needs with empathy and compassion. I understanding that life can at times be very difficult and all behaviour has a valid reason.

If you are a couple, it is important to know that I am working with your relationship not each individually. Some couples, not all, have individual sessions to develop an awareness of how their past experiences are influencing the relationship and to neutralise trauma which stops intimacy developing.

I have a range of experiences and training in adult, child and couples counselling. I have a background in education & safeguarding supervision so I highly value offering you the education around your relationship situation.

I have extensive training background in counselling, psychotherapy, psychosexual therapy, grief & loss, coaching and education. Nothing has trained me more for my role than my experiences/wisdom gained from being a partner of a sex & porn addict which triggered all my childhood issues related to my adoption history.

One key learning gained is that all behaviour has a purpose (often safety) and a relationship has a function of finishing off childhood in some way. I have compassion for the challenges both men and women face in relationships.

I also work within the social care industry and homeless support sector as a reflective practice facilitator. I provide training around the impact of pornography. I have a background in education so this is key to my approach to support you.

My first session

You will have read our working contract and have an understanding of the guidelines I work within and what to expect. I allow time for you to ask any questions you may have. I will go through the essential details to ensure we are working ethically and within the law.

I will listen carefully to your issue and agree upon a focus for the session. I will offer whatever interventions or psycho-education is specifically appropriate for you to gain the most out of our session. No session is ever the same!

I use my Therapist’s ears and eyes to help you become aware of hidden patterns and/or beliefs created from your past experiencing that is impacting your present reality.

I use my coaching expertise to highlight your growth points, inner strengths and resilience factors to reveal opportunities or personal skills that can be used to improve your life situation or relationship.

I have extensive experiences working with children as a teacher and counsellor. I don't work with children now, I use this expertise to help you to understand how your childhood is impacting your present living, or relationship. It could be that aspects of your childhood are unfinished or unresolved.

At the end of the session, you will be more aware of how your past is influencing your present situation or aspects of your relationship. You will have psycho-education that relates directly to you or your relationship and life tools to take away so you can take action to create the change you want in your life for yourself or your relationship.

I have found that all relationship breakdowns or issues offer an opportunity for personal and relational evolution.
