About me and my therapy practice
I have a great passion for supporting people when they are feeling low. A low mood can often make us feel sad, anxious, stressed or panicky. Our minds can be full of negative thoughts, which could affect every part of our lives, making it difficult for us to cope.
I am an integrative counsellor which means I incorporate different types of therapies to suit your needs. This may be by using a person-centred approach, which in therapy means the counsellor works to understand how the client sees the world from their own perspective whilst offering a place where they can be fully accepted without judgement. I support my clients to better understand their feelings and facilitate an environment where they can get in touch with their inner strengths allowing for personal growth to occur, which in turn enables the client to function well. I may also offer mindfulness techniques and coping strategies which aids self-awareness and promotes acknowledgement and acceptance of one’s own thoughts, feelings and body sensations. I often incorporate a psychodynamic approach into my work which allows the client and counsellor to look into the origins of a client’s behaviour thus creating an environment that can facilitate understanding and change. I often incorporate Relational Psychotherapy into my approach. This form of psychotherapy can help clients to recognise how they relate with others and how this impacts on their life experiences by exploring their inner thoughts, feelings and behavioural patterns. Working relationally has the capacity to allow a person to maintain emotional well-being and have fulfilling relationships with others.
Counselling sessions with me may help with:
- Low mood.
- stress
- Anxious thoughts.
- Gaining confidence.
- Your Self-Worth.
- Increasing Self-awareness. Understanding your feelings, thoughts and emotions.
- Alleviate feelings of stress, anxiety and depression.
- Enhancing your self-esteem.
- Difficult relationships.
- Bereavement, grief and loss.
Practice description
I am able to work with anyone over the age of 18. My areas of speciality include working with stress, depression, general anxiety disorder, panic attacks, feelings of sadness, suicidal ideation, relational issues, low self-esteem and low self-confidence. I also have a great passion for working with bereavement, grief and loss. As an animal lover this includes pet bereavement too. I offer short term and long-term therapy at a level and pace that is comfortable and relevant for you. I have flexible working hours so am able to facilitate day time and evening appointments.
There are times in life when we can find it difficult to cope with our thoughts, feelings and emotions. When things are difficult to deal with or it all just gets too much you may need someone to talk to, to try and make sense of it all; I can offer you the space and time you need to explore the issues that are having an impact on your life. The therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client can enhance mental wellbeing and induce change to alleviate the struggles that may affect your everyday living.
Sometimes it is helpful to explore how and why you see the world the way you do, so you can look at ways to enable you to be able to cope differently and help you function in a way that is more beneficial for you.
My first session
Counselling sessions usually take place at the same place and time every week or two. This can be discussed within our sessions. I am happy to offer a free 20 minute consult over the phone prior to our meeting to see if Counselling is Sally is suitable for you.
The first session will offer you the chance to see if counselling is right for you and to see if we wish to work together in the future. If we decide that we are right for each other, then we will look at a contract. The contract will include boundaries, fees, confidentiality, cancellation policies and complaint procedures. There will also be an assessment form that we fill in together, this is to get to know you a little better and will include GP contact in case of emergencies.
