About me and my therapy practice

We all go through times in life when we feel  lost, anxious or sad. This can relate to our relationships with others and the way we think and feel about ourselves. When we feel overwhelmed by these feelings or they don't seem to go away it can help to talk to someone outside of our family or friendship group.

I am a BACP accredited integrative counsellor working with  adults, younger adults and students. I also specialise in working with ADHD, ADD and ASD clients. I provide a safe, confidential space to explore your feelings and make sense of what is going on in your life.  I am experienced in working with a diverse range of people in both community and educational settings.

I understand how tough it can be to consider opening up to a counsellor, and will meet you with warmth, acceptance, care and support. I will also bring humour and playfulness into sessions, where appropriate. You will be heard with respect and without judgement. We will work together to explore what’s troubling you, look at any obstacles getting in the way of you realising your hopes for yourself, and experiment with making lasting changes.

Where appropriate I will draw on my background in working as a Specialist Mentor supporting University students with neurodivergence (including ASD, ADD and ADHD), mental health concerns and physical disabilities. I may also draw on embodiment practices and breathwork techniques, should you be open to this.

also have a great deal of experience of working with people from a range of class and ethnic backgrounds, beliefs, faiths, ages and sexualities. I will respect, acknowledge and value the difference within and between us and what to hear about you and your experiences.

Practice description

I use different theories and approaches to support clients with different needs. This holistic approach means that I will not see you as a set of symptoms or a problem to be solved, but will help you to take a good look at your life with respect for your unique experience. Together we will explore what you are struggling with, uncover what inspires and energises you, and look at how you want to move forward.

We will work collaboratively by concentrating on what is important to you, and I will support you to gain fresh perspective through reflecting on and understanding yourself, your present situation and experiences and how you relate to yourself. I strongly believe that how we relate to ourselves is central to our happiness and contentment, and this will be at the heart of our work together.

In longer term work we may also explore how your early life and relationships, life circumstances and perhaps difficult histories have shaped you and your current behaviours, patterns and sense of self.  Having a better understanding of this is often helpful in terms of being more compassionate to ourselves in our present situations, which is the key to making effective and lasting change.

If you are looking for an EAP counsellor I am qualified to work in this way. Please ask for more details.

If you are a civil servant then I can sometimes work with a third party charity to help you obtain a reduced rate. Please ask for more details.

My first session

I offer a short and informal 10 - 15 minute chat online or on the phone for you to get a sense of me and what it might be like to work with me, this is free of charge.

Following this in our first session we will spend a short amount of time looking at administration and then start our work together. I will be led my you in terms of what you feel it is important for me to know about you and your life. If this feels too much I may ask you to describe for me a typical day in your life - and we will go from there.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative counsellor and draw on person centred, psychodynamic, gestalt, solution and compassion focused approaches. I work by concentrating on what is important to you, and supporting you to gain a fresh perspective through reflecting on and understanding yourself and your present situation, actions and experiences. We may also explore how your early life and relationships have shaped you and your current behaviours, patterns and sense of self.

Counselling can be short (6 – 12 sessions) time limited or open ended, according to your needs. We will also have regular reviews to ensure that we both agree that counselling is right for you, and that our work together is helping you.

Practice description

My way of working is described as relational, which means that I consider relationships to be very important and we will endeavour to build one that allows you to feel safe, understood and respected. We will explore your past experiences (including relationships) and identify ways in which they may still be influencing your thoughts, beliefs, behaviours, emotional well-being and current relationships.

I am approachable, compassionate and trustworthy; offering a safe, confidential environment for us to collaboratively explore your individual concerns and experiences and work towards the goals, change or acceptance you desire. There will be ongoing reviews to assess the way we are working together and make sure you are getting what you want from therapy.

I attend regular supervision and am an accredited  member of the BACP and therefore I adhere to high professional and ethical standards.

specialise in working with ADHD, AuADHD and ASD clients. I have ADHD myself.
