About me and my therapy practice
Difficult emotions don't go away just because they are not acknowledged, often they get pushed down as we try to carry on as normal, until one day we notice we've got a bit lost in it all.
Therapy offers a safe, confidential, caring space to explore whatever has led you off your path and find a way forward.
I am an accredited Integrative Therapist and Clinical Supervisor.
I have had the privilege of working with people who have been impacted by trauma, including sexual violence, abusive relationships and childhood emotional neglect, for many years.
As an Integrative Therapist I weave together several modalities of therapy to create a flexible, holistic approach.
The therapeutic relationship is a vital part of therapy, so it is important to find a therapist that you can feel you can relate to and connect with in some way. My primary aim is to create a secure, genuinely supportive, space for you to process your thoughts, experiences and feelings. A space in which you can speak your mind and experience being heard and understood.
Most of the way we think, feel and behave does actually make perfect sense within the context of our history and life experience, part of my work with clients is around us working together to explore who you are now and redefining who you want to be and what you would like your life to look like.
I offer short and long term, open ended, counselling in central Reading.
Practice description
I am currently offering face to face sessions as well as online and telephone sessions, all therapy sessions are 50 mins, Sand tray therapy sessions are 90 mins.
My Office in central Reading is modern, light and airy. Creating a professional yet warm and welcoming environment.
My way of working very much depends on each individual client as we are all as unique as a snowflake.
As well as integrating person centered and Psychodynamic therapy as a framework, In most cases I will at some point be bringing in some aspects of psychoeducation with evidence based practical skills to share with you. This may include coping strategies and grounding skills.
I have a keen interest in Neurobiology, as I like to understand what's going on under the car bonnet and why our minds work the way they do, sharing this with clients can impact the relationship they have with themselves, as they are able to normalize and make sense of things that have been a source of self criticism.
I do also sometimes, if the client would like to, use elements of creative therapy, this can work with material in the subconscious and 'speak' to a part of the brain that talking is not as affective for.
I have also been trained and had many years experience working with trauma. I carry out extensive CPD in this area and ensure that my knowledge and practice is up to date as this is an evolving, relatively young field. Thank fully we are becoming more aware of what helps and older practices are being replaced.
