About me and my therapy practice
I know that talking about feelings can seem scary - and yet I believe human connection is essential in difficult times - of which we've been through a lot recently & collectively. The word therapy literally means ‘to stand beside the other’ and together, in a safe space, we can work with whatever's challenging or overwhelming you, and explore new choices - at your own pace. If you’re feeling lost, scared or distressed, I'd like to support you in finding some clarity, offering you warmth and integrity whilst we do that. I work with issues including fear, loss and grief; family, parenting and relationship issues, fertility and pregnancy issues, work problems, anger, general stress or ‘stuckness’; addictive behaviour, anxiety, panic, depression and trauma.
I'm also very interested in how we hold emotions and anxiety in our bodies - and how to locate what causes tension and distress, making it easier to bear. Crucially, I believe we all deserve the chance to express ourselves without feeling judged, and the chance to find our own light.
Practice description
Face to face or online. Occasional walking therapy if it feels appropriate. During therapy, I'm led by what is coming up for you. If you want to simply talk, or are interested in using creativity to gain new perspectives, such as journal or creative writing or free drawing, we can do that together, exploring how to move into new cycles of experience. I draw on different therapeutic models: being particularly interested in what's happening for you right now in the present moment, as well as looking at the past, and any fears for the future. As a Gestalt therapist, I'm curious about stuck or rigid patterns that we can fall into, usually through necessity in earlier life, and looking at how to free up these old habits or patterns of behaviour that can sometimes be harmful to you.
My first session
I offer a free phone chat of up to 20 mins to discuss what you're looking for. A first in-person session (online or face-to-face) is then the chance to see how you feel about therapy: it's a chance for me to find out some information about you, and what is you're looking for help with; the start of a therapeutic relationship to support you as best as possible.
