About me and my therapy practice
Hello. My name is Becky and I have worked as a professional counsellor, spanning over 7 years now, working with people of all ages, through face to face and online sessions, in an empathic and non-judgmental manner.
Through counselling, I provide a safe place to explore life events and the emotions, thoughts and behaviour they bring with them, in an accepting and confidential environment. Your situation and the way you respond is unique to you.
Seeking the support of someone external can be invaluable in helping us make sense of our thoughts, feelings and behaviour, particularly if we feel stuck in an emotion, out of control, or alone. The opportunity of talking to someone who is separate to our day to day lives can allow for us to feel heard and understood, without fear of judgement or consequence.
My aim is to build a trusting relationship, encouraging an honest approach with warmth, understanding and integrity. I offer a non-directive approach to counselling, providing you with the freedom to explore what you wish, at a pace that is comfortable for you. Together we can address issues past and present and over time encourage your autonomy to process challenges old and new.
Practice description
I am trained in the Person-Centred approach which is a client-led form of talking therapy, however I practice in an eclectic way, for example pulling from other approaches such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and mindfulness.
This integrative approach allows me to tailor make therapy to meet the needs and personality of each individual. I appreciate that at times, talking alone may seem too challenging and so using interactive and creative methods, such as art or writing, can encourage an individual to express themselves in another way. It is important to me that we work in a way that is most effective for you.
I offer both short and long-term sessions and work on a one to one basis.
My first session
I believe it is really important for us to have an initial, brief meeting before beginning counselling, in order to discuss what you would like from therapy. It is a great opportunity for us to meet one another and for you to discover what I can offer. It is incredibly important to me that you feel comfortable with the approach of counselling I offer, the working environment and me, your Counsellor, so that you get the most out of your counselling experience.
The initial meeting is free of charge and usually lasts approximately 20 minutes.
