About me and my therapy practice
Deciding to see a Counsellor is often a difficult first step, especially for those that have never experienced counselling before. It can be hard for us to express how we feel, and we may be fearful of discussing what is troubling us. We can so often dismiss our own needs in order to fulfil the wishes and expectations of those around us. Finding the time to care for our emotional well-being can be seen as an indulgence and in today's busy world a necessity we often overlook. The pain and suffering that can come about from suppressing our emotional needs can lead to both physical and mental health issues.
As an experienced Counsellor I believe that once we truly understand how we think and feel we can gain greater clarity, strength of purpose and become more self-aware. Counselling can allow us to view ourselves in a more positive and constructive way, make different choices for ourselves and recognise the origin of our thoughts and feelings.
As a Humanistic Counsellor I believe you are the expert on yourself and therefore are in control of what you wish to explore and understand. I focus on an integrative approach, so my theoretical understanding allows us to work according to your needs and chose goals.
Alongside private practice, I have worked for Macmillan Cancer Care, the NHS and Cruse Bereavement Care. Symptoms and life issues that I frequently work with include depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationship issues and low self esteem/confidence. However, this list is by no means exhaustive and many people come to counselling because they have a general feeling of low mood and sense that life is not have they would like to to be.
Practice description
I work from a comfortable space in Tunbridge Wells and welcome clients with warmth, respect and listen without judgement. I offer face to face, online and telephone sessions.
Each session will last for 50 minutes at a cost of £60 per session. I would recommend a minimum of 6 sessions and that sessions take place each week at the same time.
My first session
I usually speak with potential clients on the telephone for an introductory call, with a view to then booking the first session.
During the first session I then ask a series of questions, which provides the perfect opportunity to help you relax and for us to get to know each other and start building on a relationship. The first session lasts for 50 minutes.
