About me and my therapy practice

I am an accredited relational psychodynamic counsellor. I work integratively, using my training in trauma focused work, and skills and experience in embodiment, mindfulness and movement. I am also an EMDR therapist and trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy.

My values inform how I work, and I care deeply about feminism, social justice, anti-racism, intersectionality, and inclusion.  This means that I recognise the impact of wider societal structures that make living well and healing from trauma difficult, as well as recognising the importance of our own personal stories and histories. I see us as needing a sense of connectedness and purpose in our lives, and to make meaning and sense of what has happened to us.

In counselling I hope to help people find coping strategies that work for them, to reach insights, and to find their own way towards health, authenticity, and positive relationships with themselves and others. I offer a warm and empathic space for exploration, support, learning and change. My focus is on the relationships and connection that we build in the counselling room, with ourselves, and with others around us.

EMDR is a trauma focused therapy designed to help process traumatic memories. It can also help with anxiety and phobias. It is evidence based, and can offer relief from symptoms of trauma. EMDR can work well as a short term therapy. You may also wish to have some EMDR sessions around particular memories or experiences, as part of the work we do together in counselling.

Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is another evidence based trauma focused therapy looking at your experiences on the context of your whole life. We would work through and process traumatic experiences chronologically. NET works well in person, and requires longer sessions of around 90 to 120 minutes.

Practice description

My Private practice availability is on Monday daytimes.

I work online and in person from the Beehive Community Centre in BS5. The Beehive Centre is an accessible Community Centre. There are no steps to access, and there are disabled accessible toilets. There is also a comfortable waiting area and cafe.

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long. For EMDR and Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) we would have longer sessions of 1-2 hours, as agreed.

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to see whether we are a good fit to work together.

Your first session is an opportunity for us to meet, to find out more about the issues you would like help with, and to discuss how I might be able to help you. You will be able to get a sense of me and how I work.

Initial sessions are 50 minutes long and are £70. Subsequent counselling sessions are the same length of time and cost.

Longer sessions (1 - 2 hours) are usually needed for trauma focused therapies such as EMDR and NET, and subsequently are charged at a higher rate. This is something we would discuss and agree after initially meeting to discuss your needs.
