About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Tom, and my aim is to offer you a supportive and kind space to experience change, healing and to help you explore whatever it is you are going through. Much of my work supports clients with depression, anxiety, relationships, identity, self-esteem, parenting, adoption, existential thoughts and the search for meaning. You might also be going through life changes, looking to explore yourself or understand, challenge & change behaviours. I work with all adults and specialise in working with queer communities & those who are neurodivergent. These will be your sessions, and I aim to help you work towards whatever goals you have.
I combine several therapeutic theories & techniques to offer you a unique service tailoring my approach to you, your needs & wants. I have extensive therapeutic experience, having worked in private practice for seven years and providing over 5500 clinical hours. I have a MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy Practice, a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, Diploma in Supervision and teach Counselling to trainees.
Our work together will be strictly confidential, my hope is that we will go on a journey of discovery together and no matter who you are, what you have experienced or what’s happening now I am here to listen and provide you with proactive therapeutic support.
Sessions are on a weekly basis, last 50 minutes and are online.
My therapeutic approach isn’t about judgements or blaming, it’s about understanding and growth. My work is based on meaning healing and connection.
Practice description
How does it work?
When you get in touch, we will have a conversation to find out what support you may be looking for and for you to get a feel for if I am the right therapist for you. We can then arrange an initial session / assessment.
There will be no obligation to continue with sessions after the initial assessment, it is important for you to decide if you feel comfortable and wish to work with me.
Sessions last 50 minutes and are on a weekly basis at the same time on the same day. I am currently unable to offer fortnightly sessions for new clients due to availability. Sessions are priced at £70.00.
My first session
The first session is a mix of an initial session with an assessment. In this session you will have the time to speak more about what’s going on for you and the reasons for seeking Therapy. You may also have some goals you wish to work towards that we can explore. There will be a few questions I will ask, and you will hopefully get a feel for how you find working with me.
We won’t dive in too deep to quickly as it is important for us to develop a therapeutic relationship to help you feel comfortable to explore things deeper.
Towards the end of the session, you can then decide if I'm the right Therapist for you and what you would like to do with sessions going forward. You may wish to work long term, open ended or to a set number of sessions.
What I can help with
Abuse, AIDS/HIV, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cancer, Child related issues, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Men's issues, Obsessions, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Work related issues

About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Tom and I am a supervisor, therapist, tutor and writer. You can find out more about me on my website or my business Instagram @newhcounselling.
For me supervision is all about the relationship and offering you the kind of specific support you are looking for, this would involve tailoring my approach to you and your needs.
The aim of Supervision with me:
The overall purpose of supervision is firstly to monitor and promote the welfare of your clients. However, I do not forget you in this, meaning we need to consider your needs as a therapist. I will want to know how you are doing, because if you are "okay" your clients will be to. If you are in private practice I will also want to support you with the stress of this should you wish. As again, if you are stressed running your practice that will have an impact on you, your life and your clients.
I will aim to help you focus on the development of your professional identity and skills, encouraging an authentic you, an authentic practice. This might involve your work as a volunteer, in an organisation or within private practice.
What you can expect:
We would meet fortnightly or ad hoc monthly, depending on your preference, each session will be at a mutually agreed time.
Sessions will be held online via Zoom, the link for Zoom will be emailed to you along with a reminder the day before your supervision session.
I will encourage and facilitate the development of an effective working supervisor / supervisee relationship.
I will encourage on-going development opportunities and facilitate professional development when relevant.
I aim to offer support and challenge as appropriate and aim to identify a range of options for you to consider and I will intervene when a client’s welfare is at risk.
Together we will continue to discuss and work with ethical guidelines and professional standards.
