About me and my therapy practice
Life can be challenging and most of us at some point experience stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma, loss, anger, sadness and pain. Therapy can help unlock our capacity for positive change and a renewed love of life. I appreciate the courage it takes to seek therapy and it is important to find the right therapist for you. Therefore, I provide a free 20 minute telephone consultation.
I work with individuals to explore trauma, anxiety, attachment issues, abuse, identity, low self-esteem and self-worth, addictive behaviour and many other presentations. My therapeutic approach to each client is flexible and unique according to whom I encounter in the room; each is met without judgement, a core value which underpins my practice. I receive all my clients with an open mind, and with the idea that sometimes really being listened to - acknowledged, heard and understood - can have a profound impact on a person’s emotional well-being. This, alongside a safe and confidential space for self-reflection, and the process of linking past and present experiences with emotional responses, can result in noticeable shifts in behaviour patterns and have a positive and lasting impact on mental health and self-care.
I also work with couples to unravel how unhelpful patterns came to be and what underpins them. Once we’ve identified this, we look at ways to exit these patterns and discover new ways for you to be together that facilitate connection. The aim is always to help you both meet each other’s needs and find healthier ways of responding to each other.
Couple's therapy focuses on individual growth rather than demanding partners to change or finding quick fix solutions, and with this increased emotional strength and communication, couples can begin to have a better understanding of each other. In the safe space of therapy couples can learn to drop their defensive behaviours such as anger or withdrawal and to be their authentic selves.
