About me and my therapy practice
If you are thinking about having therapy, then let's give it a go. Originally from Scotland I do my best to offer a warm, calm, safe, empathetic, non-judgemental, transparent, accepting and confidential space to talk about whatever you need. You do not have to be in crisis to start.
I originally gained my post graduate therapy qualification in London after 8 years of university study. Since then I qualified as a couples and other relationships therapist. I therefore offer therapy to individuals, but also couples or small groups who may wish to work on relationship issues in any type of relationship e.g. romantic (all versions of), work, family. I work on a short, long term or open ended basis to suit your needs.
My approach is humanistic integrative which includes psychodynamic, relational, cognitive behavioural therapy, person centred, gestalt, and transactional analysis models of therapy amongst others. In simpler terms this allows me to tailor therapy to any individual so we can work together towards improvement and/or change.
I am also registered to offer sessions to those with private health insurance with Axa, Vitality Health and Aviva. It may be possible to arrange to work with other insurers upon request.
Practice description
I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I started at the deep end volunteering for the Samaritans in 2008 and since then I have built up experience working with clients in the NHS, low cost services, charities, universities, prisons, schools and in private practice. I have experience of working with young children, adolescents, university students and adults presenting with various issues including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, work problems, abuse (current/historical - physical, emotional, sexual, neglect), loneliness, self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, unhealthy coping strategies, illness, disability, loss and bereavement, learning difficulties, financial hardship, discrimination, stress, sexual health, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, bullying, rape, violence, anger management. I currently work only with adults.
Prior to my work as a psychotherapist I learned about the world and people in all walks of life through work in a top finance company, local government, higher education, Film/TV, modelling and property.
My first session
The first session will be about getting to know each other and the issues you are having to work out the best way forward. There will be no obligation to sign up to anything. The biggest healer of all in this type of therapy is finding the right therapist for you and this session is very much based on that. Sessions will last 50 minutes.
What clients have said:
"Thanks for your time and understanding of my situation....I have found the sessions incredibly helpful and it has given me positive thoughts to mull over." S
"I'm feeling much more optimistic these days and more comfortable in myself recently - I'm taking things easy to hopefully stay that way. I think my sessions with Louise really helped me understand myself a bit better and prioritize myself, thank you." E
"Counselling helped me to unravel my thoughts and feelings into a sensible, understandable thread. It has helped me enormously." V
What I can help with
Abuse, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Child related issues, Cultural issues, Depression, Health related issues, Identity issues, Loss, Men's issues, Personal development, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Service veterans, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues
