Availability
I can offer week day and evening appointments either in person or online. I provide a free initial phone call, this gives us an opportunity to find out a little more about each other and what you're looking for from counselling and you can get a sense of how we may work together and if we have mutual availability.
We can arrange to schedule an initial session, this is an introductory counselling session, in order for you to experience what it feels like to be in a counselling session with me and if you feel I am the right counsellor for you. Each session will last 50 minutes and will often be held on a weekly basis. The reliability of having regular sessions over a period of time contributes to a feeling of safety and trust that often allows us to work on a deeper, more effective level.
This is often the level at which we need to work in order to allow healing, growth and change to happen. I also offer fortnightly sessions for individuals who are not able to commit to weekly sessions at this time or have been working with me on a weekly basis and feel ready to have less frequent sessions.
I understand that it is not always possible to attend sessions on the same day every week. If this is the case, where possible, I can offer flexible appointments.
I work with clients on a long and short term and time limited basis, there is no requirement to attend a specific number of sessions, this is something we will discuss and review together.
About me and my therapy practice
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may have something specific that you are looking to change or gain help with. It may be that you are feeling stuck, experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, uncertainty and feeling overwhelmed. You may have experienced trauma and feel ready to explore this further. Perhaps you are looking for an opportunity to get to know yourself better and to understand why specific people, events, scenarios impact you. Counselling can, I believe be an incredibly valuable tool to help you, regardless of the issue.
It is essential that your counsellor is someone with whom you feel safe and able to share important parts of your life with, without fear or judgement. I understand that this can be a difficult process and I am passionate about providing an open and safe environment for you so that you get the best out of our time together.
As an integrative counsellor, I can work with individuals in an open ended manner, where we don't set a limit on the number of sessions you see me for. I also provide short term and time limited therapy, this can be helpful for individuals who would like to work on something more specific for a set period of time during our counselling sessions. You may not have a sense of how you would like to work at the beginning of our therapy, this is something we can explore and review on a regular basis.
I have several years experience working with issues around depression, low mood, anxiety, anger management, loneliness, trauma, relationships, family issues, low self esteem, stress, panic attacks, career and employment, bereavement and loss, self harm, physical, emotional and sexual abuse and assault. I am an LGBTQ+ affirmative counsellor and have experience in working with individuals who would like to explore their relationships, gender and identity.
My first session
There is no right or wrong thing to say or to talk about in counselling, you may feel nervous or anxious about our first session. This is completely understandable and we can talk about this and what feels comfortable for you to talk about when we first meet.
If you would like to enquire about making an appointment, booking an initial session or you have any questions, please contact me by phone or email. I offer a free initial phone call, this gives me the opportunity to find out a little more about you and what you're looking for from counselling and you can get a sense of how we may work together and if we have mutual availability.
After an initial phone call, we may wish to arrange an initial session, this is an introductory counselling session, in order for you to experience what it feels like to be in a counselling session with me and for you to get a sense of whether you feel I am the right counsellor for you.
