About me and my therapy practice

You are probably looking for a therapist who cares, is experienced, well-trained and can help you find a way through your current difficulties. Having worked as an NHS High Intensity CBT therapist (and supervisor) and as a Psychodynamic therapist in private and voluntary services, I have  the kind of reliability, experience, training and qualifications you'd expect.

Clients regularly tell me that I've helped them gain the insights and skills they needed to cope better.  I am also trained in Positive Psychology through the University of East London and enjoy helping people find their way towards a more flourishing life.

I offer in-person and online counselling, both of which have been been highly effective for clients near and far.

I believe therapy is powerful: it can be hard hoping for change when you’re in the middle of a difficulty, and yet, in my experience, people take powerful steps forward in their lives with the right help.

My way of  approach is about us working together. Together we try to understand exactly what is going on in your life and exactly what it is you want to change (which isn’t always clear to people immediately).

As we get clearer on what the difficulty is, we begin to draw on both your strengths and skills as well as my own to work towards making things better. While it can be comforting having someone listen and understand you, it’s not always comfortable making change happen which is why I see all my work as a team effort between you and me.

My lengthy training in both psychodynamic therapy and CBT allows me to work with deep-rooted issues from your past as well as addressing the struggles you face right here and now.

It is a leap of faith, both in me and in yourself, to start therapy but almost all my clients are pleased they took that first step by the time they’ve finished. No question is too silly, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you think I could help you or visit my website (link on profile).

My first session

Many people worry about what they'll say and how to get started but I'm used to that and used to putting people at ease. I am good at taking you through those first steps. I structure the session quite clearly so you can begin to understand more about what may be going on in your life and how therapy might help.

The session will be an assessment of your difficulties and a chance for us to both begin to get a sense of how (and whether) I am someone you're confident to work with. There is absolutely no commitment to stay but I've found the vast majority of my clients have felt comfortable staying having made that first step.

People often find some help already in the first session but for most, it takes at least three sessions before you begin to get a clear sense of the direction of change you might expect.
