About me and my therapy practice

Hi, name is Stephanie (she/her) and I’d love to help you get to a place where food, your weight and your body shape no longer rule your life, ruin your day, and interrupt the things you’d rather be putting energy into.

I find that many issues around food come from difficulties with identifying and validating our emotions and feeling safe inside, either through traumatic experiences, feeling othered as we grow up, or looking at the "rules" of the world around us and doing our best to ensure we are seen as "trying our hardest", and counselling can help to unpick the root causes and re-create the safety we deserved to feel all along.

I believe in a weight inclusive, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, anti-racist environment, in which people of all physical abilities can feel respected and understood. I believe in the principles of Health at Every Size – HAES® , (and am a member of ASDAH) , and I believe that Intuitive Eating is a framework that can aid greatly in disordered eating recovery. I have also completed additional training in understanding ASD/Autism and ADHD.

Practice description

I aim to create a practice and therapeutic space that is as welcoming, warm and friendly as possible, working collaboratively with you and perhaps even having some fun along the journey – therapy does not need to be a solemn space if this doesn’t benefit you! I want you to feel as safe and heard as possible, especially as you may have had experiences in your life where you didn't feel listened to.

My sessions take place online as I find this allows me to offer services to people across the UK who might not otherwise be able to access specialist counselling for disordered eating, either due to mobility issues, limited free time or lack of robust services in their local area. It can also allow people to feel more comfortable and centred, as they are working in their own confidential environment that suits their needs.

My first session

Our first session would be a 20-25 minute free of charge consultation via Zoom, in order for us to meet, and further discuss what you would like to get from counselling, what you're currently experiencing, and I would also ask some brief questions around your mental health history and current support system. You'd also have the opportunity to ask me anything you'd like to, and get a sense of how online counselling feels.

After this initial meeting, if you wished to continue with counselling, we would arrange our first full session, and look more at what our short and long term aims would be, any areas that feel important to look at initially, and I would supply any resources after each session that we discussed may be useful.
