Practice description
Life circumstances and relationships have been changing in our world lately and this is sometimes hard to process for individuals and for couples.
I am a qualified, experienced and.. very human.. therapeutic counsellor registered with the BACP, BPS and NCS. I work with individuals and couples both online and face to face through my private practice Counselling Choices.
If you are facing life challenges and changes in your own life and want to work out your next steps, perhaps it's time to talk and see what you might need or want to do next..
I feel strongly about people being able to have access to counselling and confidential help when it’s needed and I am dedicated to this.
My first session
I like people to feel comfortable through their therapy so they feel that they can talk, so I hope that this comes across in the first session! In this first session you will be able to tell me informally and with no pressure, what it is you're worried about and I will listen and attend and meet you where you are with this. I will walk with you and not judge, I will leave space for you to explain and we will work out together your pathway forward in therapy and what we have identified as being important to you for the next sessions.

Availability
I have availability for face to face sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, afternoons and evenings, between 10 am and 8 pm, at Sandycroft, Deeside. Perhaps you could let me know which times of day might work best for you in general and then I can offer you some time slots. If you could do daytime that would be preferable to me although I understand this is not always possible when people are working.
About me and my therapy practice
I have a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Clincal Supervision Including Online and Telephone Working.
I am a Psychology graduate and I became a therapeutic counsellor through CPCAB. I have completed varied relevant training and worked as an integrative and mainly person centred counsellor for over six years in my own practice with individuals, couples and families.
My approach within my own therapy practice is integrative using different modalities including CBT, psychodynamic, existential, solution focussed and CBT approaches, according to what the client's needs are, but it's base is mainly person-centred.
Counselling is something for which I really have a passion.. to be able to be there for others on their unique journey and to allow people to explore and find their own answers. It's extremely rewarding and we are always learning as counsellors how to become hopefully better at what we do which is to sensitively allow clients to discover what works for them in terms of how they can accept or change things.
Practice description
I believe in working together in supervision collaboratively and in a very human way, intentionally learning about and understanding your needs as a supervisee in a way that supports you in your client work and in your own development, resilience and wellbeing as a counsellor. I like people to feel comfortable and at ease and so I hope this comes across and we can work with mutual respect, openness, sensitivity, humility and also humour.
Reframing or conceptualising in new ways, seeing things from alternative viewpoints and being gently challenged is part of supervision. But I also want to give support and encouragement for the feelings of vulnerability as a counsellor that we can experience for example when a client's issue resonates, or when you're not sure about something. You need to feel empowered in your supervision to discuss success or failures.
Again your own journey and development is as unique as your own way of working and supervision is the process through which you can safely reflect and explore your own interventions and relationships with clients, what you have learned and what you need to learn to develop your own therapy work further.
My first session
For your first session we would assess how you would like to work together and what you want from your supervision sessions in terms of your own growth as a counsellor and in your practice, where you would like to head towards as well as reflections of individual work with clients. It's important to feel comfortable with your supervisor and to find the right fit and this session will allow you to feel whether this is right for you.
