About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully qualified, experienced therapist. I work face to face in Beaconsfield, online via Zoom, and at Watford Women's Centre. I work with adults and young people (18 yrs+) and I offer both short term counselling and, longer term open ended therapy. Shorter term work offers a focussed approach to one or two particular concerns. Longer-term work allows a more in-depth consideration of significant experiences and feelings. This exploration in a warm, non-judgemental and confidential environment can offer a reduction in stress and anxiety and a greater sense of wellbeing over time.
I work from a psychodynamic perspective. This way of working understands that our relationship patterns and ways of behaving can be impacted by our earlier experiences and unacknowledged thoughts and feelings. Giving a voice to difficult feelings can help us to think about how we experience ourselves and others, and develop the capacity to change.
Sessions are arranged at a mutually convenient time and are usually at the same time/day each week, for 50 minutes. Please see additional note below re: ISTDP sessions.

Practice description
Working psychodynamically pays attention to what might be going on within our own minds as well as in our relationships. It considers what we might feel conflicted about, and what our deeper wishes and fears might be.
What this means is that I will listen without judgement to your thoughts and feelings, make links between them, offer observations and ask questions. This will feel different to talking to a friend, colleague or family member and you will have the opportunity to voice a range of ideas in a safe, confidential and compassionate environment. Things can then be understood in new ways, providing relief from distress, and the opportunity for personal development and change.
My first session
I offer an initial 15min Zoom consultation or phone call to discuss what support you are looking for and how we might work together. There is no charge for this.
We can then discuss the possibility of further sessions and timing.
The first full session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other more and to decide if you would like to have further sessions, or if another service is perhaps more suitable. Ongoing sessions are weekly. ISTDP sessions can be fortnightly and are longer in length. Please see details above.
