About me and my therapy practice

Navigating our way through life is rarely straightforward. At times we may face obstacles, bumps in the road, or feel lost along the way. It’s times like these when counselling could help.

Whether you are going through a major life change such as bereavement or relationship breakdown, feeling overwhelmed with work or family life, or perhaps you have a general sense of uncertainty and want someone to talk things through with – having the space to unpack your feelings and experiences can help you discover some clarity.

In a safe, warm and inclusive space free of judgement, together we can explore whatever difficulties are troubling you.

With over 8 years of experience working with a variety of clients, I realise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counselling. So, while my core approach is person-centred, I may draw on other approaches in our work if I feel they may be helpful. I am committed to anti-discriminatory practice and am an lgbtq+ affirming therapist inclusive of gender, sex and relationship diversity.

Practice description

My approach to therapy is tailored to meet your needs and sessions are always led by you. Some people like to decide in advance how they might like to use a session, while others prefer to see what comes up for them on the day. Sometimes we will decide how to best make use of a session together, if that's what you would prefer. Some people like to keep notes of how their time between sessions has been and use these as a prompt, some people like to have homework or exercises to do between sessions which we can then discuss together in the next session. I have a flexible approach to how I work so that we can get the best fit for you and your needs, whatever they may be right now and as they change over time.

My first session

Our first session will be about getting to know one another, to see if we both think we are a good fit and to decide how we might best work together. I like to get an overview of how you are currently managing in day-to-day life and to see which areas might need a little extra attention/support. The first session is also for me to answer any questions or worries you might have about the therapeutic process, so that I can hopefully put your mind at rest. I do tend to take notes in our first session so it may feel a little formal, but subsequent sessions do not generally involve me sitting in front of you with a clipboard!
